Assistant professor in Architectural Engineering (2025-224-06286)

One or more positions as Assistant Professor in the Division of Architectural Engineering is available for 3 years at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment at Aalborg University, Aalborg campus. The appointment is expected to commence June 1, 2025, or soon hereafter.

Jobbeskrivelse
The Department of the Built Environment(BUILD) focuses on the technical and scientific disciplines within the built environment. Research areas span from Indoor Environment and Energy Efficient buildings, Wind Turbines, Structural Design, Structural Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Wave Energy to Traffic along with many other areas. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment. The department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in situ measurements along with laboratory experiments. As an employee at the Department of the Built Environment, you become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaborations.

The building industry faces challenges with making the current building stock perform as expected and desired. In the operation of buildings this includes various types of maintenance and commissioning, such as fault detection and optimization of control of both HVAC systems and rooms.

The positions are oriented towards research and teaching within the domains covered by the division of Architectural Engineering. This includes different aspects of monitoring and optimization related to both design and operation of buildings. This could for example be automation of the fault detection process, optimization of building controls, simulation of the building and control systems in the design phase for optimized system design, all with the goal of ensuring and enhancing the actual performance of buildings.

We are seeking a candidate with built environment expertise related to the aspects above, holding a relevant educational background, such as Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering, with practical experience being advantageous.

Preferred qualifications include:

      • Knowledge and experience with building management systems
      • Knowledge on design of HVAC systems
      • Understanding of HVAC system operation and their interactions in a building context
      • Proficiency in programming and data handling, with Python being the preferred language
      • Proficiency in building simulation, including knowledge of Monte Carlo methods and its use in building simulation.
      • Knowledge and experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)
      • Expertise in quantitative data collection and analysis, including lab and on-site measurement techniques, calculations and simulation tools, and methods for data treatment.
      • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and modeling skills.
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and preferably Danish.
      • Experience with scientific papers writing, and non-academic knowledge dissemination to industry stakeholders.

Additionally, experience in teaching and supervision, particularly in problem-based learning, is considered an advantage, as the candidate is expected to contribute to teaching within the Division of Architectural Engineering. The candidate should have a broad knowledge and teaching profile.

Danish fluency is preferable, as many of the research tasks need the cooperation of technical personnel mainly speaking Danish. Also, many of the intended teaching responsibilities are on the Danish-BSc educations.
