Job description
For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking Data Processing Engineering to support the Maintenance and Engineering activities of the Satellite System Ground Segments division, with special emphasis on the contribution to the new programs under development and maintenance and evolutions of online Ground Segment elements specifically for level 0, level 1, and level 2 near real-time data processing.

You will provide support for the ground segment data processing system engineering in the context of EUMETSAT or Copernicus missions.

Tasks:
After an initial phase-in period to acquire an in-depth knowledge on the assigned components for the specific mission, your tasks for supporting to the data processing sub-systems and facilities of other missions will mainly include:

• Define, design, implement and integrate architectures or elements of architectures for data processing ground segments and their components, with special emphasis on level 0, level 1, and level 2 near real-time data processing.
• Maintain and evolve existing operational data processing ground segments applications or application components especially for those under configuration control:
  • Data processing system level engineering activities.
  • Software, Hardware configuration deployment and verification activities.
  • Contribute to Anomaly processing activities.
  • Contribute to the setup of a Test Suite within the Automated Test Environment (ATE) for individual processors and for the end-2-end data processing system (as a whole).
• Provide expert advice to the procurement and installation of software, and the co-ordination of software releases with external providers of support services.
• Generate and maintain formal project documentation.
• Participate to meetings and formal reviews:
  • Participate and contribute to relevant technical and progress meetings.
  • Participate, as required, at ARBs, SRBs and CRBs.
• Contribute to the training to the members of the SGS Data Processing Competence Area on the PDP.

This is a full-time position to be located at EUMETSAT premises in Darmstadt, Germany, with the planned start date as soon as possible.

Qualifications & Competencies
In addition to having a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an institution of higher education you shall meet the following requirements:

Mandatory Technical Skills

• Excellent technical writing skills, in formal technical documentation, e.g., requirements, design documentation, test procedures, maintenance procedures.
• Experience with the Qualification and Production Phase with preparation of Integration, E2E SW, and Acceptance Test Readiness/Results Reviews data packages.
• Experience in the Feasibility and requirements definition/consolidation phase with participation in Requirement Reviews and/or Design Reviews.
• Experience in engineering activities for I&V campaigns, including:
  • The definition of VCDs, I&V plans and test specifications and procedures.
  • Coordination or follow up of Integration, Verification and Validations activities.
• Experience of operating and maintaining software systems in Linux, AIX, and Solaris.
• Competence in software testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification, and validation.
• Understanding of, and experience with, git and GitLab, and svn.

Optional Advantageous Skills and Experience

• Requirements management experience using DOORS.
• Experience with change management processes.
• Experience with operational Earth Observation science data processing.
• Knowledge of relevant standards, quality assurance and configuration management principles and applications.
• C++/C programming languages experience in Linux, AIX, and Solaris environments.
• Use of and application programming of database systems.
• Software debugging, memory analysis, and profiling.
• Understanding of, and experience with, software building and packaging, specifically make, CMake, RPM.
• Competence in the use of scripting languages (e.g., bash, shell, Perl) and high-level languages (e.g., Python, Java).
• Experience in data analytics for satellite EO product data.

• Fluency in English (C1 level)
• Excellent communication, presentation, and team working.
• Capability to be independent and to adapt to a rapidly changing, often stressful environment is also essential.
• You will be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, able to work calmly and accurately under stress and able to work without supervision.
