Do you want to work with health and safety on cutting-edge offshore projects in a global team? Do you want to make your mark on building a foundation for a sustainable future? Are you passionate about securing a safe work environment for everyone working on COWI's green transition and renewable energy solutions? Then, this could be the next adventure in your career.

Turn challenges into sustainable solutions
In COWI we try to always contribute to moving our customers towards sustainability and the ambition is that 100% of our revenue comes from projects which drive towards sustainability. We are currently looking for an OHS Specialist to take part in the design and construction of offshore wind projects. We are a section with 22 OHS employees working alongside our customers on some of Denmark's and the world's most significant projects. And we are thrilled to have contributed to projects like: COWI to support Equinor's energy transition and Saint Nazaire offshore wind farm.

We are looking for a talented and ambitious HSE Specialist to contribute to our offshore wind projects – all the way from design to installation. You will play a crucial role in building great projects with great people, ensuring health and safety for the employees installing and operating the windfarms. You will work in close collaboration with COWI's design team to give your input to the technical solutions ensuring safety is integrated in the design.
Here is your chance to join a global company and challenge yourself on both big and small projects. Our size also means that you can work on projects from one of our offices in Denmark or we can offer you the opportunity to join international projects for shorter or longer periods. That depends on your preferences and what fits into your current situation.
Your key responsibilities will be:

  • HSE Design Integration: Ensure that health, safety, and environmental considerations are integrated into the design and engineering process for offshore wind projects. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to incorporate HSE requirements, standards, and best practices throughout the design phase.
  • DRA workshops: Facilitate Design Risk Workshops with the design team and the Client.
  • Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis: Conduct thorough risk assessments and hazard analyses of offshore wind project designs. Identify potential HSE hazards, assess associated risks, and propose mitigation measures to eliminate or reduce risks to an acceptable level.
  • Compliance with HSE Regulations and Standards: Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations, standards, and guidelines throughout the design process. Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging regulations to ensure designs meet all required HSE criteria.
  • Safety Systems and Equipment Design: Develop and review designs for safety systems and equipment related to offshore wind installations, including fall protection systems, fire detection and suppression systems, emergency response systems, and access and egress arrangements. Ensure designs align with HSE requirements and industry standards.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment: Support the assessment and management of environmental impacts associated with offshore wind projects during the design phase. Collaborate with environmental specialists to evaluate potential environmental risks and develop mitigation measures to minimize adverse impacts.
  • HSE Design Reviews: Conduct HSE design reviews to assess compliance, identify design deficiencies, and propose corrective actions. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including engineering teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities, to address design related HSE concerns and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of HSE design considerations, risk assessments, and mitigation measures. Generate reports and technical documentation that demonstrate compliance with HSE requirements and facilitate effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Support and Expertise: Provide technical support and expertise to project teams, engineering personnel, and other stakeholders regarding HSE design requirements, standards, and best practices. Collaborate with HSE specialists and consultants to address complex HSE design challenges and ensure effective HSE integration.
  • HSE Design Verification: Participate in design verification processes to validate HSE design aspects and ensure adherence to specifications and requirements. Collaborate with independent verification bodies or third-party experts to verify compliance with HSE standards and industry guidelines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously review and enhance HSE design processes, procedures, and guidelines based on lessons learned, industry developments, and emerging technologies. Identify opportunities for innovation and implement best practices to drive ongoing improvement in HSE design effectiveness.

Your skills. Our team. Together, we design the future.
The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

Preferably, our new colleague has experience from offshore HSE work – e.g., from offshore wind projects, the offshore oil and gas industry, or similar offshore project. It is also an advantage if you have experience using 3D models to be able to review the design.

The ideal candidate can communicate effectively with clients regarding their needs related to health and safety issues associated with design and construction projects. This to establish effective communication channels between them so that everyone can work together towards achieving common goals.

On top of that, you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications in Health and Safety and experience from a similar role from e.g. offshore projects
  • Experience contributing to the HSE part during the design phases
  • The ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills by working with employees at all levels (including contractors) to develop strategies for improving worker safety and reducing risks on site
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written

It is an advantage if you have a technical background and experience with HSE standards used in the industry. It is also an advantage if you have experience from working on international projects.
