Position Summary

This leadership role will drive, collaborate, and advise on the end-to-end contracting & outsourcing process for development services with external service providers e.g., Contract Research Organizations (CROs), and ancillary service providers to support the development pipeline. The role will support the outsourcing strategies and by creating leading practices which improve values, minimize risk & cost, ensure quality, and create scalability in a dynamic and growing business demand setting.

Key Accountabilities

The key accountability of this role is to lead the end-to-end contracting & outsourcing process, in close collaboration with the other teams in DSS as well as departments in Development to facilitate timely, fit for purpose contracts, by:

  • Building and leading a global team of outsourcing professionals and support their career development and objective performance management.
  • Providing leadership and oversight for the DSS - sourcing team accountable for sourcing processes with external service providers.
  • Being responsible for the alignment of category strategies within the DSS - sourcing team.
  • Advising line of business on future best practices by leveraging on risk, performance and relationship lessons learned.
  • Supervise the category strategies that the team is category lead on.
  • Taking lead in and actively influence continuous improvement initiatives that will generate comprehensive processes; delineate roles/responsibilities; and promote quality.
  • Responsible for the request for outsourcing process.
  • Refine the Vendor evaluation process in collaboration across DSS that provide a vendor overview of performance.
  • Support and be responsible for the team in their vendor evaluation.
  • Enabling the vendor selection.
  • Driving the contract process (initiation, negotiation, execution, and scope changes) for master service agreements as well as monetary agreements i.e., task orders/statement of works and change orders.

Furthermore, this role will play an important part in the further development of the global outsourcing, contract management and vendor governance processes together with the entire DSS team and partners in R&D, Legal, IT&D, Finance, Compliance & Risk, QA, and Global Procurement.

Experience

  • 8-10 years of experience from clinical outsourcing in the bio-pharmaceutical industry or from a contract research organization or other relevant clinical services providers
  • +7 years’ experience in a multidisciplinary environment or line function
  • +5 years ‘experience with people management, preferably in a matrix environment
  • + 3 years’ experience with cross-functional team leadership
  • Multisite or international experience is preferred.
  • Well-founded negotiation and vendor management experience
  • Strong knowledge in process management
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of clinical drug development.
  • Solid experience with working in a matrixed business environment, leading multiple commitments and collaborators while prioritizing conflicting demands, maintaining focus on the objective, and providing high quality service to both internal and external partners.
  • International experience is preferred.

  • Active listener with excellent analytical and documentation skills ensuring attention to detail and the highest level of accuracy.
  • Hands-on mentality, and a standout colleague but also able to work highly independently.
  • Determined and a dedicated colleague with a pragmatic business approach and thrive with running a wide range of collaborators and tasks and the ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced expanding company environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities.
  • Self-motivated, thorough, and willing to accept temporary responsibilities outside of initial job description
