Postdoc in proteomics and functional analyses of protein carboxylation

Applications are invited for a 2-year postdoc full-time position in the field of proteomics and protein functional analyses to work on a collaborative project at the Department of Biology and the Department of Clinical Medicine, Research Unit for Molecular Medicine, Aarhus University, Denmark.
Expected start date
The position is available from 1st September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Job description
The focus of the research project is to study protein carboxylation – a post-translational modification - and how it affects protein function and metabolism in hypercapnic animal models. Focus will be on using advanced proteomics to identify target proteins of carboxylation in vivo. Downstream functional work will include measurements of mitochondrial respiration and glycolytic activity.

In addition to leading their research project, the postdoc will be involved in the supervision of PhD, Master and Bachelor students, and is expected to contribute to teaching activities.
Your profile
The ideal candidate:

  • Has preferably prior experience of proteomics and protein studies, including experience in high-resolution respirometry (Oroboros, Seahorse). Interest and research experience in biochemistry and cellular metabolism is an advantage.
  • Has a strong record of publications
  • Is expected to be independent, highly motivated and keen to work collaboratively
  • Has excellent English writing and communicative skills

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline.

The place of work is the Department of Biology, Aarhus University, C.F. Møllers Alle 3, 8000 Aarhus C. Part of the work, including proteomics, will take place at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Research Unit for Molecular Medicine, Olof Palme Alle 49, 8200 Aarhus N. The area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.

Deadline
Applications must be received no later than 1 May 2024.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
