The role
As a Principal Backend Engineer at Viaplay, you will drive the overall technical vision and direction of our platform. You will contribute hands-on by engineering scalable and resilient back-end systems in Node.js and Rust, running in AWS.

In this role, you will lead the work of developing our platform and meet the challenges of a continuously evolving product. With a passion for technical leadership and a willingness to act as a role model for others, you will advocate for the developer community and be a mentor to engineers within your domain. You will join an autonomous team that delivers engineering solutions aligned with long-term technical and product visions, while also being part of the leadership group and supporting cross-team/department initiatives.

We build our entire product in-house with apps in native languages and a microservice backend in AWS transitioning towards an event-driven serverless architecture. We strongly believe that being on the edge of things when it comes to technology is crucial, always keeping ourselves up to date and constantly challenging the status quo.

What we’re looking for
We are looking for a passionate and highly skilled developer with leadership experience. We believe you have been working with various challenges that require solving complex technical problems and leading your team. You thrive in a high-energy and team-driven environment where you will contribute with the strategic perspective to develop our business.
Successful candidates also meet the following requirements:

• Experience developing customer-focused web-based services, using JavaScript (Node.js in particular) and other modern languages
• Proven experience in designing highly scalable resilient cloud services in AWS
• Excellent technical leadership skills, setting direction and enacting change among peers
• Experience working with a state-less and highly transactional end-user product

Bonus requirements that will make you stand out from the rest:

• Experience building or migrating complex systems to Rust.
• Experience from the media- or streaming industry.
• Experience from knowledge-sharing patterns and practices in a product organization.
