Assistant/associate Professorships in Software Quality Methods
The Computer Science Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites applications for several faculty positions in Software Quality Methods at the rank of assistant professor or associate professor. The proposed starting date is September 2024 or soon thereafter.

The IT University’s vision is to create and share knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity. The Computer Science Department seeks to conduct research and education that are both foundational and have impact on industry and society.

Job description
The candidate is expected to perform research activities in collaboration with fellow faculty members in the Computer Science Department, especially the SQUARE research group (square.itu.dk), and to develop interdisciplinary collaborations when relevant. The Software Quality Research group seeks candidates who can engage with external companies and organizations on predominantly applied but well-founded research and who are willing to work on intensive collaborative projects within the group. We are particularly interested in working on building new software tools and assessing existing software technologies and methods.

The candidate is expected to contribute to the IT University’s education programs, both by giving courses and by supervising BSc and MSc theses. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to engage with society through external collaboration, to participate in securing external funding, and to contribute to the IT University’s strategic goals.

The Candidate
We look to hire candidates holding a PhD in computer science, especially in software engineering and formal methods.

The candidate is expected to contribute to the existing Software Quality Research group and to conduct research and research-based teaching in one or more of the following areas:

  • Software and systems modeling, software visualization, domain-specific languages, software variability, and adaptability.
  • Software testing for systems and code, including formal specification-based testing, program repair methods, etc.
  • Methods and tools for analysis of programs based on logic, probability, and information theory.
  • Software quality engineering for data-driven systems (robots and autonomous systems, statistical software, machine learning components) and their analyses for safety, privacy, and security risks.

The ideal candidate should document:

  • Peer-reviewed publications in areas covered by conferences and journals such as TSE, TOSEM, SOSYM, ICSE, MODELS, ICFP, ICST, FM, FSE, CCS, POPETS, ESORICS and their collocated workshops.
  • Competences in developing and conducting teaching that is well received by students.
  • A record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which they have worked as well as supporting own research community, for example participation in committees, etc.

In addition, candidates for a position as associate professorship should be able to:

  • Attract external research funding
  • Supervise PhD students
  • Be willing to learn Danish (for applicants who cannot speak a Scandinavian language)

It is understood that even highly qualified applicants will satisfy these requirements to varying degrees, for example because of differences in countries and research fields.

General information
The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full-time faculty members. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities and social sciences, business impact and the commercialization of IT.

About the Computer Science Department
The ITU Computer Science Department conducts research in all aspects of computer science and data science, including natural language processing, algorithms, databases, government IT, machine learning, network science, optimization, programming languages, quantum computing, robotics, privacy&security, semantics, software engineering, software verification, type theory, and more, as well as a range of applications. The department has 55 permanent faculty, 65 PhDs and postdocs, as well as other staff. It is responsible for the IT University's most technical education programs BSc Software Development, BSc Data Science, MSc Computer Science, MSc Data Science, and MSc Software Design.

Salary and Terms of Employment
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Taxation’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and job structure for academic staff at Universities.

  • Documentation of academic degrees (copy of degree certificates etc.)
  • Copies of 3 different publications that are relevant to the position.
  • Research statement that includes a detailed description of your qualifications, summary of the three selected publications (above) and how they fit your research agenda, and future research projects.
  • Documentation of pedagogical experience and teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position.

Applications without the above-mentioned required documents will not be assessed.

The applicant will be accessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 13 March 2012.

The IT University may use shortlisting in connection to the recruitment process. In case of shortlisting, the Chair of the hiring committee selects applicants for assessment in consultation with the hiring committee after the application deadline. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The shortlisting of candidates for assessment is based on the criteria in the job posting.
