Newbuilding Manager

Maersk Group - A.P. Møller Mærsk

Newbuilding Manager focused on delivering strategic High CAPEX Container Vessel Newbuilding projects to our Business

Are you thrilled by the opportunity to drive and guide some of the most exciting modern vessel-building projects in the world? And are you a natural go-getter who can create momentum whilst putting a smile on stakeholders’ faces?

As our new Newbuilding Manager, you will support our ambitious decarbonization journey by identifying, developing and overseeing a number of our strategic, high CAPEX, new building projects.

At Maersk we have embarked on an industry-defining transformation, in a bold new direction, expanding our capabilities to become a true end-to-end logistics provider that can deliver intelligent solutions for customers around the world. In addition, we have set ourselves ambitious – industry-leading - decarbonisation targets, fuelling substantial investments in (among other things) modern, Methanol-fueled Container Vessels. It’s a big moment for all of us – and we all have our part to play.

Welcome to Maersk’s Newbuilding Team
You would join a team that works across a wide range of internal & external stakeholders. Our task is to develop, nurture and execute Maersk’s Container Vessel Newbuilding Strategy. Our projects typically involve a business case development stage, a tender execution stage, a build execution stage and various post-contract responsibilities & deliverables. As a new building team we not only act as overall project owners, we are also heavily involved in leading individual workstreams across the various stages.

Occupying a pivotal role in driving our Newbuilding activity forward, we make a point of connecting to the business whenever we can – be it through floor walking and physically meeting our stakeholders in their surroundings or via Teams. Strong networking is our key to creating momentum and something that comes naturally to us. Given the nature of our strategic, high CAPEX, projects, the team (and this role) enjoys substantial exposure to the senior leadership of our Company.

Manage our Newbuilding projects and help drive our decarbonisation Journey
You will be involved in a range of different projects and deliverables. On some projects you will take the lead as project owner, on others, you will provide essential input as workstream lead or subject matter expert. The project teams will typically consist of members from different business units, e.g. representatives from finance and legal, network strategy, Fleet Technology, procurement and Fleet Operations.

You will use the majority of your time on project execution. The rest of you and the team will spend on improving our ways of working so that we can handle our new building activities even more effectively.

Some of your day-to-day tasks will be to:

  • Support, define and execute our strategic new building projects and related decarbonisation initiatives
  • Meet up with stakeholders and project team members to problem solve, innovate and drive momentum on the various projects
  • Create, develop and maintain relationships with key shipyards and broker channels
  • Investigate opportunities for additional value creation and optimisation, supporting the strategic development of the new building team
  • Contribute to improving our best practices by identifying learning opportunities and developing new policies, guidelines and processes.

This position is based in Copenhagen, but some travel to the Far East (China, Korea, Japan) should be expected.

A motivated people person who recognises good practice
You easily navigate between the different projects in a structured manner and quickly grasp new subject matter as you move on to new projects. You have a proactive mindset and love to “get stuff done”.

Moreover, you communicate effortlessly with colleagues from any layer of the organisation, and networking comes naturally to you. Because you are a true go-getter, you enjoy ensuring that projects progress despite setbacks.

Professionally, we imagine that you:

  • Have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in supply chain, business administration, economics, (international) finance - or perhaps a technical background
  • Have an exceptional eye for detail, without compromising business efficiency
  • Have the ability to work independently, but thrive in a setting where everybody contributes as a team
  • Have managed, or been a key part of, large-scale projects – involving many stakeholders and complicated deliverables
  • Speak and write English fluently – Danish is not a requirement

If you have previous experience within the commercial aspects of shipbuilding, vessel chartering or sales & purchase this will certainly be a plus – but lack of such specific experience will be no means be a disqualifier.
