The Research Unit for Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Biodemography, Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for fulltime positions as associate and/or assistant professors in epidemiology (molecular or general), biostatistics, or biodemography to be filled from September 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Research Unit for Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Biodemography, Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for fulltime positions as associate and/or assistant professors in epidemiology (molecular or general), biostatistics, or biodemography to be filled from September 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Research Unit is one of seven research units at the Department of Public Health and is home to the Danish Twin Registry and the Danish Aging Research Center. These centers comprise comprehensive survey and register data and a biobank with biological samples from Danish twins and sequential birth cohorts of long-lived individuals which have been used in a broad range of epidemiological, molecular, clinical and biostatistical research. Furthermore, the Unit has extensive experience in register-based epidemiological, clinical, and demographic research.

Job description
The positions will involve at least three of the four items below:

    • Epidemiological studies of human development and aging. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research initiatives in epidemiology with emphasis on explaining variations in health, aging, and lifespan.
    • Statistical methods for health science data. The successful candidate should have interest in the development of optimal methods for the analysis of data arising from observational twin and family studies, clinical trials, omics and more.
    • The department connects with international networks of expertise, and the applicant will be expected to engage with new developments and bridge these with our locally represented areas of interest and expertise.
    • Teaching, supervision, and examination of programs in epidemiology and/or statistics at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels within the Faculty of Health Sciences.
    The applicant will work in a multi-disciplinary team of epidemiologists, molecular biologists, medical doctors, biostatisticians, mathematicians, and bio-demographers.

    Expectations of qualifications
    Major requirements

    • A PhD degree in health science, biology, genetics, statistics, or mathematics.
    • Solid knowledge of and experience in the use of statistical methodology within analysis of health data, which has resulted in a documented track record of international peer-reviewed publications.
    • Candidates should also have a strong interest in pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and in supervising students and researchers.

    Other requirements

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent analytical abilities.
    • Fluent English language skills.
    • Capable of working independently as well as in multidisciplinary teams.
