The European Spallation Source (ESS) is a partnership of 13 European countries with the
mission to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source. The ESS accelerator, target and experiments are based in the university city Lund, Sweden and our Data Management Software Center (DMSC) is placed in Copenhagen, Denmark. The DMSC is tasked with the mission to assist users of ESS with all their scientific computing needs. This includes experimental control, data curation, reduction and analysis, modelling and simulations, user office software and associated hardware and infrastructure.
We are now looking to appoint a summer worker for the Scientific Information Management Systems(SIMS) Group for the Data Management Software Center division.
The tasks and responsibilities of the group include but are not limited to:
- Delivery of critical software that make neutron scattering experiments at the ESS possible and successful.
- Develop the ESS user portal, metadata catalogue, electronic notebook and more.
- Participate in the development of exisisting and new web applications
- Manage the growing set of integration, the development happens in a collaborative, open-source environment
We use modern web technologies and aim to deliver software with high quality and long lifetime.
About the work
- Familiarise yourself with the SIMS software code
- Document code architecture
- Decide how to make a developer guide that can be easily accessed and conveniently teaches how to start contributing to the code base
- Continue code development of existing platforms
About you
A suitable background for this work would be:
- Student within engineering
- Good written and oral communications skills in English

Duration & Location
The position is a summer work position, of 8 weeks.
Your work place will be situated in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Start date
Planned start date is 01.07.2024
Planned end date is 23.08.2024
