Vestas Power Solutions (VPS) is where new product ideas are developed, matured, improved, and tested. Within Vestas Power Solutions (VPS), you'll find our department, Electrical Balance of Power & Infrastructure(eBoP&I), as part of Power System Integration module.
At eBoP&I, our primary goal is to enhance system reliability by standardizing dynamic components utilized in Vestas Power Plants. These components include Capacitor Banks, STATCOM, and Synchronous Condensers, all of which are crucial for ensuring compliance with both global and regional standards. Our team functions as a part of the Power System Integration department, encompassing a wide variety of skills and knowledge. Our members include qualified professionals from transmission system operators, experts in power system integration, accomplished academics, and persons with extensive industry backgrounds.

Responsibilities
As a Power Plant Engineer within the Electrical BoP & Infrastructure (eBoP&I) team at Vestas, you will play a crucial role in a highly skilled team focused on integrating hybrid electrical components, including Photovoltaic (PV), Battery Energy Storage (BES), and Power-to-X (PtX) solutions, into Vestas Hybrid Power Plants.
Your primary responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Developing and enhancing company standards for dynamic components
  • Participating in the qualification process of third-party vendor components, including:
    • Updating the hybrid and dynamic components Technical Purchase Specification (TPS)
    • Contributing to Supplier Qualification Assessments for technical evaluation of passive components such as Power Transformers, Switchgears, and HV Cables
    • Participating in tests and verifications related to components in the qualification process alongside specialized team colleagues
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the internal value chain and Vestas sales organization
  • Conducting research and development (R&D) projects related to various plant components
  • Designing modular concepts for hybrid power plants in accordance with Vestas internal processes
  • Developing and maintaining EBoP tools and sizing calculations following IEC/IEEE standards for passive components
  • Conducting simulations, including load flow and short circuit studies, integrating all eBoP assets in Power Factory & ETAP

Qualifications
We are seeking an ideal candidate with the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Demonstrated technical accomplishments with at least 2-3 years of professional experience. Experience in developing technical specifications and project documentation (beneficial)
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of concepts related to renewable power plant design, system definition, analysis, and grid interconnection. Experience in designing eBoP systems, including AC/DC systems; MV/HV equipment; Control, Protection and Relay Coordination; and HV Substation design. Experience in Pre or Detailed design engineering on any Generation/Distribution power system (beneficial)
  • Be motivated to work within renewable power plants R&D. Have a general knowledge of power plant control systems, including assets such as Wind power plants, SVCs, STATCOMs, diesel/gas-gensets, synchronous condensers, and other emerging main electrical components for hybrid renewable power plants
  • Be familiar with relevant IEC/IEEE standards for electrical components in a substation

Good to have:

  • Experience working on R&D projects following stage-gate development processes
  • Previous experience collaborating with Grid operators, Power generators, Utilities, Grid consulting companies, Power plant engineering companies, or eBoP components manufacturers
  • Experience conducting Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Proficiency in using major power system simulation tools such as ETAP, PowerFactory, PSS/E, and PSCAD, including conducting load flow and short circuit studies when integrating all eBoP assets

Your work location will be our office in Aarhus, Denmark.
