Your team Since 2014 the ECB has been responsible for supervising significant financial institutions as part of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), the system of banking supervision in Europe comprising the ECB and 21 national supervisory authorities of the participating countries.

First-line banking supervision under the SSM is composed of three main activities, which are organised under several directorates general at the ECB: 1) the vertical line, responsible for ongoing off-site supervision of banks; 2) the horizontal line, which provides transversal assessments and benchmarks for the banking sector; and 3) on-site inspections and internal model investigations, which provide in-depth and focused assessments of specific risks or issues at individual banks.

The third of these activities is covered by the Directorate General On-site and Internal Model Inspections. This Directorate General is made up of approximately 300 members of staff dedicated to on-site SSM supervision. It performs on-site inspections (OSIs) and internal model investigations (IMIs), partly at banks’ premises. It coordinates the planning and execution of the on-site supervisory programme, develops and maintains comprehensive on-site methodologies for OSIs and IMIs, ensures harmonised on-site approaches for the SSM, and contributes to the identification of risks and supervisory priorities.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role As Director General On-site & Internal Model Inspections, with the support of the Deputy Director General, you will be responsible for the strategic direction and management of all activities related to the on-site inspections and internal model investigations.   • fostering a constructive working atmosphere based on trust and making a positive contribution to a diverse and fulfilling environment in which all colleagues remain skilled and committed to achieving the established goals;
  • helping identify and address key risks that merit supervisory attention by engaging with the wider ECB senior management team and fostering collaboration across business areas;
  • ensuring effective communication and cooperation among the Directorate General’s four divisions, between horizontal functions and business areas in charge of direct line supervision as well as with other ECB business areas;
  • representing the Directorate General and the ECB by participating in and/or chairing internal and external meetings and maintaining excellent collaborative contacts within European banking supervision as well as other relevant international and European organisations.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to strategically guide, inspire and empower colleagues to strengthen the soundness and stability of the European banking system. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

  • a proven track record of building strong relationships and successful partnerships with stakeholders;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

  • experience of working in a multicultural and multilingual environment;
  • experience of inspiring teamwork at organisation level;

You strive to achieve goals. You define the strategic outlook for your own business area. You build diverse teams and foster an environment of creativity and innovation. You endeavour to strengthen your teams’ capability, encouraging commitment and engagement.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.

You are highly motivated to guide teams in their daily work and support their professional development.
