Brief Description of Position
COP is seeking a Technical Development Director to support our team in Australia and New Zealand on its development pipeline. In the Australian market Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has setup “Southerly Ten”, a specialist offshore wind energy developer from the team behind Star of the South, Australia’s most advanced offshore wind project. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), the world’s largest clean energy fund and the group for which COP exclusively develops offshore wind projects around the world.

As the Technical Development Director, you will lead the early to mid-stage technical development for offshore wind projects in Australia and New Zealand, playing a pivotal role in navigating the technical and project management requirements necessary to secure environmental approvals, progress project planning, and ultimately position the project to win a competitive auction prior to a Final Investment Decision.

Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of technical inputs, from regulatory approvals, grid interconnection strategies, port logistics, site investigations and supply chain planning, all of which are vital to the business case development and the successful realization of the project.

You will support initiatives including

  • Lead early to mid-stage technical project development across all technical disciplines for offshore wind farms.
  • Ensure comprehensive technical support for environmental consent applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and local conditions.
  • Drive technical activities to secure safe, high-quality solutions on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including government authorities, regulators and partners, to facilitate project progression.
  • Provide strategic technical oversight to ensure business case inputs are accurate, relevant, and country-specific.
  • Develop and oversee CAPEX estimates and technical DEVEX associated with project delivery.
  • Manage technical packages and coordinate inputs from global teams, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Work with the Procurement team on the procurement of the EPC packages in the lead-up to final investment decision.
  • Where applicable, manage the specification, procurement and execution of Site Data Acquisition contracts including wind, metocean and soil data.
  • Positively influence technology concept decisions to ensure the optimum technology concepts are utilised for the project and site-specific characteristics.
  • Ensure strong project management principles and governance structures are applied to all stages of the project.
  • Prepare materials and participate in the relevant project steering committees.
  • Work with WHSE lead to drive safe work practices Collaborate with PMO to drive operational excellence in project management

To succeed in this role, you:

  • Have a Degree in Engineering with 10+ years relevant experience
  • Have extensive experience in offshore wind development, including optimizing wind farm solutions based on site conditions, environmental constraints, and logistics; and had experience securing approvals/consents.
  • Have demonstrated commercial skills - experience working with business cases, competitive auctions and contracts.
  • Experience leading technical efforts in market-entry scenarios, with strong project management skills to coordinate multiple workstreams.
  • Have flexibility to manage and deliver “ad hoc” requests to support the project with tight turnarounds.
  • Have experience in coordinating the procurement of offshore wind EPC packages.
  • Have the ability to adapt to the Australian and New Zealand markets, which are currently at a much earlier stage than other mature offshore wind markets.
  • Possess in-depth understanding of value drivers in offshore wind project, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to identify the right solutions
  • Conduct effective project leadership & team management
  • Team-oriented mindset, with a commitment to collaboration and building a positive culture.
  • Have a global mindset and responsive to local and remote sparring, inputs, and requests
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative, tailored solutions.
