Chief Power Systems Engineer

The team
CIP is establishing a new company dedicated to providing innovative solutions to accelerate the electrification process, promote energy independence, and support the decarbonization journey of various segments, including logistics, mobility, and isolated communities. Joining this brand-new team from its inception provides candidates with the opportunity to make a significant impact in driving decarbonization and advancing the green energy transition. The team collaborates closely with stakeholders within the CIP organization and external partners, and it comprises of highly motivated individuals with diverse backgrounds and an entrepreneurial mindset.

The position
We are seeking a highly skilled Power Systems Engineer with an entrepreneurial mindset to build and lead the engineering and development team. The role will report directly to the CEO of the company and be instrumental in its success.

The role will have overall responsibility for the development of the technical solution, from conceptual design to final construction, with oversight and contribution to the development, analysis and performance. The candidate will understand the underlying principles, established techniques and adept at implementing new ideas and solutions to address the design, operability, renewable penetration and reliability energy solutions. The role is also responsible for ensuring the solution can meet customer needs and deliver optimum performance. You will assume responsibility for accelerating and delivering the projects, and all related workstreams within budget on time.

The position is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Travelling to the project’s location is to be expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the development of energy solutions, from conceptual design to final construction
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
  • Oversee the connection to the transmission and distribution network
  • Compile, process, interpret and validate performance data with the aim of providing recommendations and advice for optimizing performance, increasing renewables penetration and generating revenue
  • Oversee the generation of the required power systems models and ensure stability
  • Build and lead the engineering and development team
  • Ensure close collaboration across teams, including project managers, construction teams, and external stakeholders, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Ensure continuous operation and maintenance of energy systems for uninterrupted service.
  • Assist in developing operating instructions and contingency plans to manage energy flows
  • Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to renewable energy.

You:
We expect that you have a master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field and 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, and grid interconnection requirements.

Key qualifications include:

  • A proven history in developing renewable energy projects.
  • Proven experience in all phases of project execution from design, commissioning and start-up to operations of energy projects
  • Ability to combine concepts, principles and standards with practical knowledge
  • Knowledge of substation and transmission system components, performance, reliability and operation
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge of legislated industry requirements
  • Experience with modularization and standardization of systems to reduce costs and increase reliability.
  • Ability to conduct detailed feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Knowledge of environmental and social impact assessments and permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with energy management systems (EMS), SCADA systems, and controllers.
  • Advanced analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Great project management and leadership skills, with experience in building and leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
