Digital Communications Coordinator

Who are we?
The Danish Refugee Council is a world leading international NGO - one of the few with a specific expertise in forced displacement. We are currently looking for a highly qualified Digital Communications Coordinator to join our Global Strategic Communications Unit. The Global Strategic Communications Unit has two objectives: 1) support DRC’s growth by communicating the organization’s unique added value to external stakeholders, and 2) increase DRC’s influence by communicating its position on complex global challenges, in order to reshape the narrative around conflict and displaced people.

The Global Strategic Communications Unit is a global coordinating body, tasked with coordinating communication efforts across DRC (HQ, regions, countries, and other representations) and outlining more systematic ways for DRC to bring forward the voices of refugees and civil society. The Unit is part of DRC’s Partnerships, Advocacy & External Relations (PAER) department. PAER is DRC’s external-facing body and drives global fundraising, advocacy and external communication efforts, and is also responsible for high-level global strategic engagement with partners.

About the job
Under the guidance of the Head of Global Strategic Communications, this position is responsible for the formulation, development, management and implementation of DRC’s digital strategies in a way that triggers and sustains interactive and transparent dialogue around displacement-related issues.

This includes direct management of the DRC’s global social media channels and working closely with the Web team to ensure the website and SEO strategies support the organization’s overall vision. The position is also responsible for providing analytical insights around performance and trends and recommend ways for continuous improvement. Other responsibilities include strengthening digital collaboration and coordination between HQ, regional and national and increase capacity of colleagues when necessary.

Main duties and responsibilities will be:

Global Social Media Strategy and Engagement

  • Lead the conceptualization, design, planning, execution and evaluation of global social media editorial content and campaign plans, including during humanitarian crisis and emergencies
  • Develop engaging calls to action that will enable DRC to grow its supporter base, working closely with DRC’s advocacy and fundraising experts
  • Plan and roll-out paid digital content not related to fundraising to support strategic and DRC-wide advocacy and awareness campaigns
  • Manage the Secretary General’s public social media accounts

Capacity Building

  • Lead on capacity building strategies for global, regional and country colleagues who are managing DRC-branded channels and webpages
  • Lead work with leadership and staff to identify, empower and improve DRC’s social media presence through employee-generated content

Digital Analytics and Insights

  • Oversee regular reviews of digital performance and other analytic insights, as required or requested
  • Stay abreast of research into new technological developments and trends in the digital world
  • Monitor social media networks and platforms; provide digital intelligence and real-time stakeholder mapping in support of evidence-based communication and direct engagement with external audiences

Web, Seach Engine Optimization, and Newsletters

  • Work closely with the web team and provide advice and guidance to improve DRC’s website and SEO performance vis-a-vis the organization’s overall strategic objectives and vision
  • Set up DRC’s external global newsletter(s), including a plan around timing, format, and content

About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have extensive experience in managing the digital presence of a medium- to large-scale organization, effectively managing competing requests, and have the ability to package content for optimal digital impact.

All employees should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence, and Demonstrating integrity.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Advanced university degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, International Relations or related fields
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in the field of digital communications, with a demonstrated track record of results-based strategic planning and management of corporate digital communications
  • Outstanding skills in content management, development and planning
  • In-depth knowledge of the global digital landscape
  • Experience using software and applications relevant to the position, including digital and social media, marketing and management tools, social listening tools and analytics platforms
  • Strong ability to write and edit external-facing materials in English; ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in written and oral form
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another DRC language (Arabic, French or Spanish) is an asset

Desirable

  • 2 years International and/or international field experience preferred; experience in humanitarian contexts is an asset
  • Experience in digital fundraising or business to business communication is an asset
  • Knowledge of different regional and national digital landscapes

We offer
Workplace: Preferably DRC HQ in Copenhagen. DRC representational offices (Berlin, Brussels or Geneva) or a DRC regional or country office may also be an option subject to further discussions.

Start date: As soon as possible
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with DRC terms and conditions.
