The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense invites applications for a postdoctoral position embedded in the laboratories of the Nucleic Acid Center as part of a Novo Nordisk Foundation Project Grant on peptide-oligonucleotide conjugate chemistry.
The research unit focuses on the de novo design of peptide-oligonucleotide conjugates and explores their potential biophysical, biochemical and biological applications.
The postdoctoral project is part of our current activities on peptide-oligonucleotide conjugate chemistry. Our group is specialized in the state-of-art peptide-oligonucleotide bioconjugation, automated solid-phase synthesis of chemically modified oligonucleotides and peptides, and the synthesis of modified nucleoside monomers. Our lab is actively engaged in diverse international collaborations with colleagues ranging from biophysics to molecular biology as part of a high-profile interdisciplinary research consortium.
We are seeking a highly motivated applicant to join our research team for a project of fusing modified peptides and oligonucleotides to advance the gene therapy in the context of the Nucleic Acid Center.
The ideal candidate has the following competencies and skills:
- A Ph.D. in bioorganic chemistry or related disciplines
- A background including nucleic acid chemistry and/or peptide chemistry
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (English) for effective teamwork across disciplines
Additional valuable skills:
- Research expertise in the synthesis of modified nucleoside and amino acid monomers
- Hands-on experience with HPLC/MALDI-MS
- Research experience in automated synthesis of oligonucleotides and peptides
Starting date: 1 February 2025 or soon thereafter. The position is for up to 2.5 years.

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is one of four departments at the Faculty of Science, SDU and is located in Odense. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is a department focused on basic research. The Department’s research thus contributes to new knowledge and solutions with applications in the areas of climate, environment, energy and health.
The Department handles research in chemistry, physics and pharmacy along with several interdisciplinary areas, and also houses several major research centers. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is responsible for the educations in chemistry, medicinal chemistry and physics, as well as the bachelor’s education in pharmacy.
The postdoc position is placed in the Section for Chemistry and Pharmacy and will work in a highly collaborative atmosphere with theorists and experimental scientists.
