Associate professor in property law/administrative law

The Department of Law at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a full-time, permanent associate professor position in the field of law of obligations and property/administrative law. The associate professorship starts on 1 February 2025 or by mutual agreement.

The person appointed to the position is expected to have profound knowledge to Danish and Nordic law of contracts and property/administrative law and particular focus on the rules of labour and employment law, whether they concern private or public law. Job description
The law of obligations and property deals with the rules that govern the activities between the citizens, including inter partes (contract and tort) and in relation to a third party. Administrative law deals with the rules that apply to the public authorities in their interrelationship and to the citizens.

The successful applicant is expected to make a significant contribution to the faculty's overall research strategy and to the department's research and teaching environment within Danish and Nordic law of obligations and property/administrative law with a special focus on the area of public and private labour and employment law, including collective agreements (collective labour law) and – particularly EU-based – regulation (“EU labour law”), hereinafter called the “subject area”.

The person appointed to the position is expected to contribute significantly to the department's research and teaching environment within property law/administrative law, particularly within labour law and employment law. It may include teaching at all the programmes, which the Department of Law offers or contributes to at any time. Currently, the teaching tasks are on BSc in Laws , BSc in Business Administration and Commercial Law, Master of Laws, Master of Science in Business Administration and Commercial Law, Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration, Master of Science in Business Administration, Accounting and Auditing, and Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. The applicant must therefore be able to teach in Danish.

In addition to teaching and research duties, the person appointed to the position must be prepared to take on administrative tasks (primarily planning, execution, evaluation and further development of teaching) and to work actively towards the department's objective of increased external funding.

The person appointed to the position is expected to:

  • contribute significantly to the department's teaching environment, particularly performing research-based teaching and supervision tasks at both Bachelor's and Master's degree level in the subject area
  • publish and disseminate scientific results within the subject area, both nationally and internationally
  • conduct the development of the subject area at the highest international level, including by supervising PhD students within the subject area and by offering PhD courses
  • make a significant contribution to the department's research environment by participating in internal and external, national and international conferences, workshops, networking and research groups within the subject area
  • undertake research management within the subject area and also be willing to actively pursue the department's objective of increased external funding.
  • be prepared to enter into cross-disciplinary partnerships to the extent that such partnerships are appropriate for developing teaching or research or for attracting external funding.

Physical presence at the department is required. Qualifications
Appointment as an associate professor in property law/administrative law requires research and teaching qualifications at such level as can be attained following a satisfactory period of appointment as an assistant professor within the subject area, but which could also be achieved otherwise. In the assessment, emphasis will be placed on both breadth and depth of the applicant's teaching and research activities.

In the assessment of application for the position as associate professor, the following will be included in the assessment:

  • The applicant's documentation of original scientific production at an international level within the subject area
  • The applicant’s documentation on how he/she will contribute to the further development of the subject area
  • The applicant’s documentation of publication in/with leading national and international journals/publishers and documentation of experience with presentation of his/her research within the subject area
  • The applicant’s documentation of significant teaching and examination qualifications within the subject area
  • The applicant’s fulfilment of the other specific qualifications stipulated in the job advertisement.

In the assessment, emphasis will be placed on both breadth and depth of the applicant's research activities and publications. The applicant’s production must show a solid understanding of the subject area’s many basic rules and basic principles, and the applicant must demonstrate an ability to apply, adjust and further develop these rules and concepts in new areas. The applicant’s ability to describe, analyse, systematise and further develop the subject area will be the focus of the evaluation.

Permanent employment as associate professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of the supervision course and also the course Online and blended learning provided by Centre for Educational Development at Aarhus University. Terms of employment
The appointment is made in accordance with the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities as well as the circular on the Collective Agreement for Academics Employed by the State (in Danish).
