Can you stimulate scientific innovation and transform science into commercial opportunities? Then this could be the opportunity you are looking for. The position is placed in Life Sciences at the Arla Innovation Centre. We deliver innovative microbial solutions for current and future products and processes to add value to Arla Foods. The team consists of 9 Scientists and 2 Technicians and is part of the Science team in Product & Innovation at Arla Foods.

Key partner to various innovation projects
As a scientist within fermentation you will be a key element in our strategic focus on advanced fermentation by utilising your knowledge within fermentation, microbial physiology and genetics in relation to dairy to drive science and innovation from lab scale to pilot plant trials. This means that you will:

  • Maintain, build and strengthen expertise/competencies on the microorganisms related to the production of fresh dairy, cheese and other relevant categories.
  • Play an active role in investigating, in our microbiology labs and through collaborations with universities, how food ingredients affect the composition and health profile of our products.
  • Be a key partner in various innovation projects related to the fermentation of dairy.
  • Perform ad hoc support to the business solving fermentation-related issues.
  • Proactively enable a two-way transfer of knowledge between the organisation and relevant internal and external partners.

Scientist with solid Food Microbiology and Fermentation background
You hold a PhD or Master degree in Microbiology, Microbial Biotechnology, Microbial Physiology, or similar relevant education. Besides an in-depth knowledge in microbiology, some of the following would be advantageous:

  • Experience from the food industry
  • Knowledge on microbiological processes in dairy (e.g. fermentation processes)
  • Hands-on experience with standard and cutting-edge microbiological analytical tools
  • Fundamental knowledge in data handling and statistics

Besides scientific competencies, to have success in this role, it would be advantageous for you to be a curious and creative team player that also thrives in an independent role, as well as a good communicator with strong stakeholders skills It is also desirable that you have a structural and analytical approach to your work and that you are fluent in both spoken and written English.
