Postdoc in in Vitro and in Vivo Evaluation of Energy Materials for the Gut - DTU Health Tech

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

We are looking for a person who can initiate activities within in vitro and in vivo models for the the gut and the metabolic pathways. You will be exposed to a highly multidisciplinary research field and you will be able to be active all the way from microfluidics development to cell/tissue models.
The ‘Drug delivery and Sensor (IDUN)’ section at DTU Health Tech wishes to employ a postdoc within the framework of our highly interdisciplinary activities supported by a Novo Nordisk Foundation Challenge grant named ‘EMGUT – Energy Materials for the Gut’. We are here specifically looking for a person who can initiate activities within in-vitro and in-vivo models for the the gut and the metabolic pathways. This project will expose you to a highly multidisciplinary research field and environment and you will be able to be active all the way from microfluidics development to cell/tissue models.

Our section makes use of a toolbox consisting of among others, microdevices, various drug formulation technologies, micro&nano fabrication, electrospinning, coherent anti-stokes Raman scattering microscopy, 3D printing and in vitro and in vivo models. Currently, we are pursuing the vision of ‘swallowing your own doctor’. That is a device or solution that will be able to sample, sense and deliver in the gut – and for this, we need sophisticated in-vitro and in-vivo models.

Responsibilities and qualifications
We seek a person who is in line with our IDUN values and who is highly self-motivated and with a great flair for guiding students. You can see the greater picture of the section/department and align with the goals of the section. You enjoy the interaction with team members, students and collaborators, and create a positive working environment. You are motivated by both individual and team accomplishments.

You will be responsible for expanding our activities within physiologically relevant in-vitro models to evaluate devices and materials – specifically with respect to toxicity and drug delivery. This will include knowledge and work in centrifugal microfluidics, culturing of human cells, culturing of organoids/spheroids and materials/drug testing. Therefore, it is essential that you have solid knowledge and interdisciplinary experience in: oral drug delivery, cell culturing, microfluidics, and a general understanding of how to develop and implement new in vitro models for oral drug delivery.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Planning and executing our cell-culturing activities using our centrifugal microfluidics platform.
  • Explore and develop new ways to test devices and materials in vitro and in animals.
  • Bring a pharmaceutical perspective to the development and implementation of new materials and devices for delivery. Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects, and be co-supervisor for PhD students.

Specifically, we are looking for a candidate that

  • Has a pharmaceutical background and expertise
  • Has extensive experience in oral drug delivery – preferably with devices
  • Has experience with development and evaluation of in vitro as well as animal models for drug delivery testing
  • Has demonstrated ability to attract funding
  • Has good communication skills both in writing and verbally.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
