Experienced Power System Engineer for developing a simulation tool for the control centre
Energinet
Energinet is seeking an experienced Power System Engineer specialised in the modelling and simulation of complex electrical systems to contribute to the development of a groundbreaking simulation tool that analyses stability conditions – and thereby ensuring the stable operation of the Danish electricity grid. You will join a development team comprising both IT and power system specialists working together to create an advanced tool for the online analysis of power system stability.
"Every day, we work to optimise the electrical system to make it future-proof, robust, and economically efficient to operate. It's meaningful work that requires focus, collaboration, and innovation,” says Senior Manager Lars Højbjerg Nielsen.
Create the simulation tool of the future
At Energinet, you will gain close insight into the complex inner workings of the electrical system. Your primary focus will be on developing and optimising our Dynamic Stability Assessment (DSA) simulation environment, based on the DIg-SILENT PowerFactory simulation tool. You will help create an innovative, and eventually real-time, solution that provides the control centre with better operational insights, optimises safety margins, and promotes stable and optimised operations.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing Energinet's DSA simulation environment with a focus on integrating data from SCADA and other sources
- Designing and implementing robust simulation models and tools to deliver accurate analyses and support decisions in the Control Centre
- Designing and implementing automation applications to enable faster simulations and higher data quality
- Automating processes, including the setup and execution of simulations, and developing evaluation criteria
Based in Fredericia, you will join 19 colleagues in the Power Grid Analysis department, which develops and maintains Energinet's electrical simulation models and supporting analysis tools. The department also conducts various types of grid analyses to monitor the transmission system's performance in domains such as power quality, voltage control, short circuit levels,
and power system stability.
We prioritise innovation and data-driven development and offer:
- A strong and cohesive team of passionate specialists
- Versatile work where your solutions make a difference in the green transition
- Opportunities to address future power system stability challenges, conduct complex system analyses, and integrate renewable energy
- An organisation focused on your professional and personal development
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
We require that you have:
- Proven expertise in power system modelling and analysis, preferably 5+ years of experience in power system studies or related fields
- A degree in Electrical Engineering (MSc), possibly supplemented with a PhD focusing on power systems
- Solid experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, Python, and data integrations – scripting and programming are central to the job
- Ability to communicate complex technical details to various stakeholders in English and preferably in Danish as well
The following qualifications are an advantage:
- Strong knowledge of power system protection, control, and renewable energy integration
- Experience with grid operations and optimisation
As a person, we expect you to have excellent teamwork skills, thriving in interdisciplinary collaboration and excelling at problem-solving.
Special conditions: The position requires that you can obtain security clearance. You can read more about the process on the national security and intelligence service’s website. In some cases, a background check may be required prior to security clearance.
Join Energinet and help ensure energy on time – and for the future!
We look forward to receiving your resume by the latest 5 January. The first interview will take place online on 10 January, and the second interview will take place in Fredericia on 16 January.
If you have any questions about the position, please contact Senior Manager Lars Højbjerg Nielsen on +45 6124 4344 or Project Lead Michal Powalko on +45 2949 4252.
We see diversity as a strength and encourage all qualified people, regardless of background, to apply for the job. We work actively and determinedly with diversity in Energinet and therefore encourage you to exclude information about age, marital status, etc. to minimise outage biases in the process. You can read more about our diversity policy here.
Energinet Systemsansvar's core tasks are to integrate renewable energy, ensure equal access to the grids, develop market design, monitor, and balance the transmission grid and ensure security of supply in Denmark. We are a subsidiary of the Energinet Group, which represents the interests of society when supplying Denmark with electricity and gas and that the energy system is converted to green energy. Our culture is closely linked to our social responsibility, and we work actively with the UN's global goals on sustainable energy, climate action, partnerships for action as well as industry, innovation, and infrastructure. By leading the way in the green transition, we can help to solve the global climate challenge. New solutions require us to be able to see problems from many different angles, and diversity is therefore a keyword in our culture. We strive to listen to, involve and share our knowledge. Based on the values of courage and trust, we focus on constantly developing ourselves as an organisation and as people. Read more at our website www.energinet.dk.
