Your role and responsibilities
ABB Smart Power provides energy distribution solutions for data centers, industrial and manufacturing plants, critical infrastructure and commercial buildings. The Division’s technical teams work closely with industry partners, delivering advanced solutions that support rapid growth, energy transition, and sustainability objectives. The Division’s portfolio includes industrial circuit breakers, low-voltage systems, motor starting applications, and safety devices like switches and relays. Its Power Protection unit supports the world’s largest data center companies with advanced energy-efficient UPS solutions. The Division’s ABB Ability™ Energy Manager provides a scalable, easy-to-use platform that helps organizations save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. In a fast-changing World, one important part of quality management is to base decisions and analysis on data and being able to react quickly on changes or deviations. In a manufacturing process a lot of data is available but is not currently being used, due to poor accessibility. Using AI or other tools is one way to close that gap and make decision more data driven and that is what we would like to explore further. Details: • Period: January to June • Number of credits: 30 ECTS • 1-2 students • Location: On site ABB Smart Power in Västerås - ABB may cover accommodation Research questions (could be one of the below or in combination): • Map and improve process for management of defective material found internally and how to use it for continuous improvements. • Analyze how AI can be used to increase efficiency and become better at making data-driven decisions, with focus on quality management. Your responsibility: • Literature studies on subject(s) • Map current process • Propose new process/process improvements for above • Show proof of concept by real implementation • Specify how to control the new process • Living ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.

Qualifications for the role

• Students in Quality management, Industrial Engineering and Management or equivalent
• Fluent English and Swedish in writing and speaking
• Self-driven with analytic and structural skills
• Basic knowledge of quality management and AI
