Steam turbine specialist

COWI A/S

Mechanical Engineer - large rotating machinery in the green transition – carbon capture, green fuels and energy

Lyngby, Vejle, Aarhus, Esbjerg or Aalborg

Type of contract - Permanent

Type of work - Hybrid

Do you want to make your mark in the green transition and be part of the world’s largest carbon capture projects? Are you an experienced mechanical engineer with mechanical design expertise at all project stages? And are you a great collaborator looking to do things even better and smarter? Then take your chance to become our new specialist for large, rotating machinery for carbon capture, thermal power, waste to energy, and green fuels projects.

Carbon capture will enable the green transition – but not without your help!
As mechanical engineer, your work can directly impact and shape the direction of Denmark’s green energy transition. We hold a great position in the market and are trusted advisors to key decision-makers in the Danish energy sector. We have an empowering and collaborative culture where aspirations to develop and excel in your professional field are highly valued. Our broad expertise enables multidisciplinary collaboration in energy storage, green hydrogen, e-fuels, pyrolysis and similar biomass conversion processes. You will join more than 150 motivated colleagues specialised in energy, thermal and chemical processes, green fuels, electrical, piping and mechanical engineering, working alongside our customers, which count the major plant operators in Denmark on some of the world’s most significant and full scale carbon capture projects at Avedøre Power Station (Avedøreværket) and Fyn Power Station (Fynsværket).

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Design and Development: Prepare conceptual studies and technical specifications for steam turbine plants, assisted by use of thermodynamic simulation and 3D-modelling tools
  • Installation and Commissioning: Participate in on-site turbine installations and testing on behalf of the plant owner and on their request to ensure compliance with technical, safety, and performance standards.
  • Maintenance and Diagnostics: In close collaboration with our plant owning customers to participate in the plan and execution maintenance tasks, troubleshoot issues, and manage service procurement to ensure long term efficiency and reliability of the equipment
  • Project Management: Lead steam turbine maintenance or new-build projects from concept to completion, managing budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with other relevant engineering teams.
  • Quality Assurance and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with quality standards and safety protocols across rotating machinery installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Technical Advisory and Client Collaboration: Provide technical guidance to clients, offering insights on performance optimization, lifecycle management, and sustainability.
  • Prepare feasibility studies and FEED studies for new plants or plant changes for carbon capture, hydrogen production, energy storage, and sustainable power generation, supporting the green transition.

Your skills. Our team. Together, we design the future.
The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve

On top of that, you will have:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related engineering field
  • Industry experience with oil and gas, the petrochemical industry or the thermal power sector
  • Experienced in preparing and reviewing technical tender documents, evaluating supplier bids, and participating in contract negotiations.
  • Insights into industry standards ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Skilled at adjusting technical language to suit non-technical stakeholders, to ensure clarity and accuracy in tenders and contracts.
  • A desire to gain expertise in piston and rotary compressors for handling hydrogen and CO2.
  • Willingness to contribute to and nurture a lighthearted and positive work environment through a healthy work-life balance
