We are looking for
Postdoctoral Researcher in Human-Computer Interaction at the Faculty of Technology and Society.
Work duties
The postdoc will support CRAFOORD Grant: KITSUNE: Systematically Exploring Writing Conventions in Scientific Work.
Within the past few years there is widespread interest in using large language models (LLMs) for the purpose of academic writing (e.g., Writefull, Grammarly). While it has already been acknowledged that there is a vast potential for these systems to assist with academic writing tasks, there is still a lack of clarity in terms of which ways such tools impact knowledge building as a whole.
The two-year project KITSUNE aims to address this via building and evaluating an LLM-tool—called KITSUNE—that supports the writing practices of a particular scientific community (CHI), as well as identifying academic writing conventions and how they shape the research produced. As a use case for this project, the postdoc will be responsible for implementing the KITSUNE tool: first by training KITSUNE on research paper data, then creating a web-based version of the tool, and finally conducting a longitudinal evaluation of the tool within the CHI community. This will be done all with the purpose of reflecting on the ethics, limitations, and challenges of implementing such systems for academic writing. The postdoc will also be in charge of the dissemination of results to conferences/journals.
In addition, teaching corresponding to 20% is planned for the position, mainly in the computer science bachelor’s and master’s programs.
