A position to do research in the area of coding with AI assistance with focus on Green Coding (energy aware coding) practices is available at the Distributed, Embedded and Intelligent Systems (DEIS) group at the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark. The workplace will be in Copenhagen. The position is available for a flexible starting date as soon as possible after February 1, 2025. The position is for 3 years.
Jobbeskrivelse
Green coding is a set of software development practices used to create programs that consume as little energy as possible. Unfortunately, green coding practices are not in widespread use since they are not well understood, and they are cumbersome and time consuming to apply. In recent years Generative AI has emerged as a powerful tool in code development.
The GreenCode project addresses the problem of software and platform optimisation by leveraging specialised generative AI and Machine Learning to optimise and certify software for energy efficiency, enhancing developer productivity, code longevity, and ICT system value.
The project is a multi-national collaborative project with 26 partners in 9 countries in the ITEA programmehttps://itea4.org/project/greencode.html
The Danish part of the GreenCode project is funded by Innovation Foundation Denmark and AAU will be in close collaboration with the Danish company Edora A/S. The main contributions to the GreenCode project are:
1. Analyse existing methods and tools to measure and predict the sustainability of software in the sense of maintainability and energy consumption.
2. Provide tool support for analyzing the sustainability of systems in order to balance performance, energy consumption and technical debt.
3. Provide tool support for using AI techniques to optimize code in terms of energy utilization, and to measure the level of improvement allowed by the approach.
