The Department of Computer Science at The Technical Faculty of IT and Design invites applications for one or more positions as tenure track assistant professor as per 15th August 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed term full-time position with a view to permanent employment as an associate professor.

The place of work can either be at the Aalborg Campus or the Copenhagen Campus. It is therefore essential that you specify your preferred workplace in your application.

Your job responsibilites
We offer an attractive career opportunity for promising and talented researchers from around the world. The position is a career development position with the possibility of transition to a tenured associate professorship. We will work together with you to develop your research talent through supervision, professional networks and pedagogical upgrading.
As tenure track assistant professor your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at bachelor's and master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues.
Your main tasks will consist of:
- Independent research of the highest international quality, including publication
- Teaching, guidance and examination of bachelor’s and master’s degree students, as well as possible supervision of PhD students.
- Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.
- The opportunity to collaborate with relevant national and international research environments.
You will report to the Head of Department, Peter Axel Nielsen.
Your competences
We are looking for applicants with independent research-related qualifications at a high international level and a PhD degree in computer science or a related field, and you show potential to become one of the best in the academic field of the position. You are a clear communicator with potential of becoming a skilled group leader, and you can, under guidance, organize and conduct supervision and teaching at bachelor’s and master’s degree level. Completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar will be a plus, as will experience with external research collaborations. We also draw attention to a stay or employment at one or more internationally recognised research institutions.
As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.
We expect you to be able to write and speak English at the academic level.
Tenure track positions are usually aimed at candidates who have not previously held an assistant professor position. In order to be assessed qualified for a tenure track assistant professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.

Your place of work will be the Department of Department of Computer Science, either at the Aalborg Campus or the Copenhagen Campus.
Denmark builds on a welfare system and while taxes are high there are plenty of welfare services including free education and healthcare including pay during paternity/maternity leave and during sickness. The process of the tenure track assistant professorship
The tenure track position starts out with appointment as assistant professor with a view to permanent employment as an associated professor. You will be appointed a supervisor by the Head of Department and evaluation meetings will take place at least once a year.
An assessment committee including external reviewers will conduct a mid-term evaluation after 3 years, and an external assessment committee will conduct a final review after 5.5 years. If the final review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as associate professor. You can read more on the terms of tenure track employment at AAU here.
In order to be qualified for an associate professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.
The assessment will, as a minimum, emphasize the following qualifications in relation to the tenure track position's scientific area:
- Quality, originality and impact of research. The assessment will be based on up to 10 selected publications.
- Documentation for pedagogical supervision, including a positive written assessment of teaching qualifications. The assessment will also be based on the employee's teaching portfolio.
- The level of experience with grant proposals and level of experience in communicating research to relevant stakeholders.
- The level of contributions to an active academic environment and ability to collaborate and build relationships.
The application must contain the following:
- A motivating text outlining your reasons for applying, and intentions and visions with the position. You must also address whether you are applying for a position in Aalborg, Copenhagen, or both.
- Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
- Copies of relevant diplomas(Master and PhD- both in English).
- A complete list of publications.
- Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. Up to 5 publications may be included.
- Teaching qualifications relevant to the position.
- References/recommendations (optional).
