Join us as our new Head of Core Biochemical Analytics
We are looking for a new leader for our Core Biochemical Analytics team, a department focusing on the development and implementation of biochemical methods and new technologies, as well as providing analytical data for a variety of R&D projects and products. You will lead a team running a high number of analyses for internal partners in Denmark and abroad. We aim for scientific excellence, robust methods, and trustworthy data that provide high value in projects.

At Novonesis, you contribute every day to a more sustainable future based on biological solutions. Novonesis develops and produces, among other things, bacterial cultures and enzyme-based products for the Food & Beverage and Human and Planetary Health industries.

Core Biochemical Analytics is part of the R&D organization in Novonesis. Our analysis work is carried out in collaboration with various business areas such as Enzymes, Dairy, Cheese, Plant-based dairy alternatives, Bioprotection, Human, Animal, and Plant Health, biofuels, and household care.

Welcome to Core Biochemical Analytics
Core Biochemical Analytics develops biochemical methods of analysis and provides qualitative and quantitative data of small sugars, organic acids, and volatile compounds in biological matrices for use in projects for new product development, customer support, etc. We primarily use ion and gas chromatography. We are active in many projects to provide new methods and data to improve the chemical characterization of existing and future enzymatic and microbial products.

Core Biochemical Analytics is a multinational department where we emphasize good collaboration, room for all of us, and where we help each other. We value the good communication between researchers, laboratory technicians and students. We work closely together to solve our tasks.

In this role you’ll make an impact by:
As our new Department Manager, your role will be to lead our analytical platforms for quantification of small carbohydrates & organic acids and targeted and untargeted volatile compound analysis. You will lead a multinational team comprising 6 scientists and 7 laboratory technicians. Your daily work will focus on providing support and guidance to the team in order to deliver robust results from high-throughput analytical pipelines. Automation is key for us, and our pipelines rely on robots (Hamilton) and integration with different software solutions (LIMS included). You will interact with technicians, engage in instrument problem solving and take part in development of new methods also by working hands-on in the laboratory. You will also be responsible for interacting with partners on projects, receive sample sets and communicating results.

Your tasks will include:

  • Being responsible for the development of employees and ensuring a good work environment in the department
  • Ensuring strong collaboration of the department with internal stakeholders
  • Securing our strategic plans for developing the department and our analytical platforms are ambitious, up-to-date, and being carried through
  • Securing the team has robust analytical pipelines and workflows, including qualification, instrument maintenance, and quality assurance
  • Ensure we deliver robust results in accordance with our Key Performance Indicators
  • Ensuring best experimental/analytical praxis

To succeed you must hold:
Preferably you have had some leadership experience and hold a PhD or have similar experience and have worked a few years with analytical chemistry. You are good at communicating and facilitating communication with colleagues in the laboratory as well as with partners outside the team. You thrive in a dynamic environment with a strong focus on high-throughput methods and are motivated by providing robust data for product development and research. It is an advantage to have some experience with microbiology and/or food chemistry.

Further, you preferably have/are:

  • A true interest in people and leading great teams
  • Great communication and networking skills
  • Highly self-motivated as well as a proven team player
  • Ion chromatography or HPLC experience using different detectors is a plus
  • Experience with laboratory software like Chromeleon or similar and IT systems such as LIMS is a plus
  • Experience with lab automation is a plus

It is essential that you are fluent in both spoken and written English.
