Head of Business Development

Introduction
Nord Pool’s Product and Strategy department is responsible for developing and maintaining Nord Pool’s strategic assets and business lines in order to answer clients needs in a versatile environment. This department is led by the Chief Strategy Officer and structured with 3 leadership roles reporting to him:

• Head of Products, responsible for Nord Pool’s existing Product strategy and roadmap
• Head of Services, responsible for Nord Pool’s services including Services to other Power exchanges and TSOs, Nord Pool Consulting and Nord Pool Academy
• Head of Business Development, responsible for the diversification of Nord Pool’s activities and revenue streams in new areas

Nord Pool is therefore looking for its Head of Business Development, to explore opportunities, structure and deliver the diversification strategy and broaden the scope of Nord Pool’s activities.

Nord Pool’s Head of Business Development will report to the Chief Strategy Office, will be based in Europe and requires international travel in the Nordics and Continental Europe.

Description
We are searching for a professional and customer-oriented leader with at least 15 years of experience in managing business development activities in the energy sector. The role is a fulltime position and will preferably be located in one of our offices in Espoo or Oslo, but other locations are possible, based on the profile. As part of your role you should expect travels within Europe, both to our other offices and also to meet and engage with customers.

The person will design, build and deliver Nord Pool’s diversification strategy, ensure strategic priorities and objectives are set and effectively cascaded down to the team. He/she will have overall responsibility for the activity, including managerial responsibility, of a team of business developers. He/ she will drive efforts to achieve the business goals through clients contacts, product design and competitor analysis.

He/she will be involved in the creation, development and launch of new initiatives, strategic business projects related to the energy markets through organic growth, partnerships or acquisition. Areas of investigation will include flexibility markets, Guarantees of Origin and other tracking instruments, PPAs and more broadly commodity markets.

Core Missions:

• Provide strategic direction to grow and defend the business interests of Nord Pool through organic growth, partnerships or acquisitions
• Oversee the development of new products and/or services in close cooperation with internal teams and especially the Head of Products and the Head of Services
• Develop business cases and business plans and coordinate activities with senior management and other areas of the organisation
• Maintain and develop relationships with clients and partners, ensure we have an accurate and detailed understanding of our client needs and opportunities to grow the business
• Monitor the competitive landscape for the company’s services and products, conduct screening analysis to identify business targets, analysis and benchmarking vs. competing exchanges
• Contribute to strengthening the department, he/she helps bolster the team’s research capacities by contributing to know-how and content on specific sectors and/or topics related to the markets

Core skills

• Solid understanding of energy markets in general, with 15 years minimum experience in energy trading/exchanges
• Proven managerial capabilities (15 years), leadership skills and experience in functioning in a highly demanding and complex environment, demonstrable experience in integrating and coordinating diverse areas of management
• Entrepreneurial and pragmatic mind-set, able to set and deliver on growth opportunities
• Interest in innovations
• Experience with managing and participating in multiple projects and getting own opinions across. Has led major strategic projects
• Solid network of contacts and relationships in the energy trading industry
• International experience, cultural sensitivity and proven international exposure
