SENIOR FUEL TRADER

Maersk Oil Trading (MOT) serves as Maersk’s fuel sourcing arm, managing supply, storage, procurement, and delivery for its fleet. With Maersk as its primary customer (80%), MOT handled over 12M mt of fuel purchases in 2024. Given that fuel is one of the largest operating costs for Maersk vessels, MOT optimizes sourcing through an a mixture of self supply and 3rd party supply. Currently around 70% of the volume is being supplied through MOT own integrated supply setup which include storage, barging and blending in a number of main hubs and own production though a tolling unit in ARA.
Our team is a dynamic blend of industry professionals, traders, and technical experts. As part of Maersk’s Energy Transition division, MOT operates globally with around 150 employees across key locations, including New York, Singapore, Mumbai, Geneva, and Copenhagen.
This role is based in Copenhagen.

Key Responsibilities
- Join an eight-member trading team as a cargo trader, covering Europe and Africa.
- Trade FOB, DAP, and CIF cargoes of Low Sulphur, High Sulphur, and Biofuels.
- Optimize a fully integrated supply system, including storage, logistics, and blending in ARA and the MED.
- Contribute to Maersk’s energy transition from fossil fuels to LNG, Green & E-Methanol, Bio-LNG, and other sustainable fuels.
- Develop and execute hedging and proprietary trading strategies.
- Manage relationships with key suppliers and customers.
- Monitor and enhance supplier performance within the supply chain.
- Oversee contract management and administrative processes.
- Drive new business opportunities in collaboration with MOT teams in Asia and the Americas.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of trading experience in physical commodities, preferably fuel or gasoil.
- Experience in marine fuel oil blending and bunker operations (preferred but not required).
- Experience or knowledge of LNG, biofuels, methanol, and alternative fuels is a plus.
- A proactive self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
- Analytical mindset with a 24/7 trading mentality and a drive for continuous improvement.
- University degree or equivalent industry experience.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken) with strong interpersonal skills.
