Software Engineer – Shaping Applications that Drive Science

Nordic Bioscience

Are you a skilled application developer with a passion for data engineering and transforming complex user needs into elegant digital solutions? Do you enjoy working closely with users to understand their challenges and build intuitive tools that make their work more efficient and impactful? Nordic Bioscience is seeking a proactive and technically strong Software Engineer to join our growing IT & Digitalization department.
The Position – From User Requirements to Production-Ready Applications
As a Software Engineer, your mission is to translate user needs into impactful, validated, and well-documented applications. You'll work primarily with R Shiny and Node.js, but we're open to other technologies and approaches that help our users succeed, so if you have experience with Python, TypeScript, Java or other Cloud-native tools for data processing and visualization, we’d love to see that too.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to collect and define User Requirement Specifications (URS).
  • Translate requirements into production-ready, documented applications using R, Posit-Shiny, Node.js or other relevant technologies.
  • Develop new tools and improve existing ones.
  • Ensure compliance with GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and internal documentation requirements.
  • Support deployment, testing, maintenance, and user training of applications.
  • Participate in ongoing discussions on digital strategy and innovation within the department.

You will become the go-to expert for Shiny apps and application development within the organization, helping to ensure long-term maintainability and user value.

Who You Are – A Solution-Oriented Developer
We are looking for someone with the ability to bridge technical development and user understanding:

Hard skills:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Development, or a related technical field.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in application development.
  • Strong technical skills with programming languages such as R (Shiny), Node.js, Python, Java and SQL, typically used for software development; experience with Posit tools is a plus.
  • Understanding of working in regulated environments (GxP, 21 CFR Part 11) is a strong advantage.
  • Knowledge of data visualization, database integration, and statistical computing.
  • Familiarity with REST API’s, DevOps and version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus

Soft skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; enjoy engaging with end-users.
  • Able to independently collect requirements, prioritize features, and plan iterative development.
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to a growing digital culture.
  • Comfortable balancing short-term delivery with long-term system architecture.

About IT & Digitalization
While we presently rely on external consultants to manage our application suite, we are now entering a new phase focused on strengthening our internal capabilities and are currently looking to welcome a full-time developer to join our team of three people in the IT & Digitalization team.

This role represents a strategic step in strengthening our internal capabilities, allowing us to bring development expertise closer to the business, ensure long-term ownership, and foster tighter integration between users and technology. While you will be the only internal developer in this specific role for now, you will be fully embedded in a collaborative team and work closely with both internal colleagues and external consultants to ensure continuity and excellence in our digital application landscape. You'll be instrumental in bringing technical expertise, ownership, and continuity to the development of our digital tools.

Why Join Nordic Bioscience?

  • Be part of a fast-developing IT & Digitalization team with real influence and autonomy.
  • Work on applications that directly support cutting-edge biomarker science.
  • Collaborate closely with both scientists and data experts.
  • Enjoy flexibility, flat hierarchies, and a company that values initiative.
