Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invites applications for a professor position in Environmental Microbiome Engineering. Responsibilities and qualifications
We are seeking a top scientist with a research program in engineering and modification of natural microbial communities toward specific goals and functionalities, and with experience in several of the following areas: Microbial ecology and evolution, genetic engineering and molecular biology, effective use of omics technologies, including sequence- and chemical omics. Translation of basic research into applications of industrial and/or environmental relevance, High throughput screening and data science techniques are also expected to be part of the position.
Additionally, the candidate is expected to:
- Hold a PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering or a closely related field.
- Demonstrate an outstanding record of research accomplishments in microbiome engineering, including a robust publication record and a history of successful grant acquisition.
- Possess teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, with a proven ability to effectively convey complex concepts and engage students in the classroom and laboratory settings.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across disciplines to foster interdisciplinary research.
- Have a track record of successful mentorship and supervision of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
The Professor is expected to play a foundational role in both advancing the field and guiding the future of the department/section. The professor is expected to carry out the following:
Research: Conducting cutting-edge research in microbiome science, seeking a fundamental understanding of microbial communities to develop novel solutions for different industrial and environmental applications. Using complementary experimental, theoretical, and computational methods to engineer environmental microbiomes, including data science, high-throughput technologies, quantitative analysis, and novel molecular techniques. A key focus should be on the mechanisms underlying the establishment and development of beneficial and useful microbiomes.
Innovation: Translating the basic understanding into biotechnological applications such as biocontrol, bioremediation, biomass conversion, climate change mitigation, and production technologies.
Teaching; Deliver engaging teaching, seminars, and laboratory sessions to undergraduate and graduate students in microbiology, molecular biology, and related disciplines. Develop and teach specialized courses in microbiome engineering, covering topics such as microbial ecology, synthetic biology, and computational modelling
You are expected to take a lead role in teaching at the BEng, BSc, MSc and PhD levels.
DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
