Oracle/PostgreSQL Database Administrator

We are seeking experienced Operational Specialists to join our Database team in Prague/Ostrava/Brno, working alongside global colleagues from Denmark and the Philippines, as well as vendors and partners. You will play a key role in advising, building, operating, and supporting our customers' databases worldwide.

Your responsibilities will include the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Oracle & PostgreSQL databases, providing 2nd/3rd level support, managing patching, participating in service windows, and following ITIL Change Management processes. You will also be an essential part of the Operations Centre, participating on daily and weekend Oncall duty.

About the team
The Database Operations department comprises 41 skilled professionals worldwide, specializing in Oracle, MS SQL, DB2, and other databases, including PostgreSQL, and MySQL. The team provides both operational and consultancy support to our customers. While most work occurs during standard business hours, occasional scheduled tasks outside normal hours, as well as weekend on-site duties (daytime), may be required in the future on-call duty.

Your Responsibilities
As an Oracle/PostgreSQL Database Administrator, you will oversee the daily operations and optimization of our customers' Oracle databases. You will work closely with our IT Operations Services division in Denmark and the Philippines, which manages everything from infrastructure and applications to full orchestration and support of our customers' IT solutions. Our work adheres to best practices and follows ITIL standards to ensure high-quality service delivery. Our team is collaborative, sharing knowledge and supporting each other in day-to-day tasks such as:

  • As an Database Administrator at Aeven, you will be part of our Oracle squad team, responsible for managing the daily operation of over 900 Oracle installations plus 100+ PostgreSQL databases
  • Participate in the daily management of incidents, service requests, and change requests
  • Investigate and resolve problems, collaborating with other teams (Unix, Windows, Backup, etc.) and liaising with Oracle Support when necessary
  • Perform regular DBA tasks, including installations, user administration, disaster recovery, automation (both OS and DB level), and performance tuning
  • Occasionally engage in reporting and code debugging, focusing on PL/SQL and Unix environments
  • Document new operational procedures, services, or any modifications made
  • Provide expert guidance and support within Aeven, or directly to customers as needed
  • Continuously expand your knowledge and skills through self-study and learning opportunities

Your Qualifications and Experience

  • We expect that you have deep knowledge about Oracle’s database products (19.x, 18.x, 12.x, 11.x, RMAN and/or ExaData)
  • Good knowledge about Unix, Linux, Windows, Network and Clustering technologies, it is your asset if you have OCP
  • You should be familiar with administration of PostgreSQL databases including installation, upgrades, data migration, backup and recovery
  • You have a business-oriented approach to communication, a problem-solving attitude, strong analytical skills, and a structured, positive mindset.
  • Excellent English, both spoken and written

With the rapid changes in the IT services industry, we are seeking a DBA who is eager to learn and support additional database technologies, such as MySQL, or MongoDB.
