We are looking for
An Associate Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical science who can contribute long-term to the development of the department and primarily to the development of teaching and research linked to our newly started BSc Prescriptionists programme.

Work duties
The Department of Biomedical Science intends to recruit an Associate Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical science with a strong research foundation in related relevnt scientific specialization. The new senior lecturer is crucial for our newly started Prescritionists programme and for our ambitions to further increase the volume of education. You will be well integrated into the research activities carried out within the Biofilms Research Center for Biointerfaces, and are expected to further strengthen the link between the department's different research disciplines (which are best described as the interfaces in the multifaceted meeting between biology, chemistry, pharmacy, medicine, physics and technology). You have a strong commitment to both teaching and research, as well as the ability to contribute to the department's joint development in the long term. You must also be qualified to teach from day one in several courses in our Bachelor's Programme for Prescriptionists (first cycle, in Swedish/English), in corresponding courses in our Programme for Biomedical Analysts (first cycle, in Swedish) and in our Master's Programme in Biomedical Surface Science (second cycle, in English).

The teaching duties include course coordination, supervision, course administration and various management tasks. Additional tasks include equipment responsibility and acting as a link between national and international researchers and partner industry.

Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as an Associate Senior Lecturer, the applicant must have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence. All applicants are judged on merit and skill.

In addition to formal competence, the general eligibility requirement is that university employees are suitable for and have the personal abilities otherwise required to perform the duties of the post well and to represent the university in the best possible way.

Specific requirements for this position:

  • Degree of MSc in pharmacy (c.f. swedish “Apotekare”)
  • PhD in pharmacy, physical chemistry or other relevant discipline

Particular qualifications for this position:

  • Qualified to teach in both Swedish and English from day one
  • Experience from writing larger, competitive external grant applications that have resulted in awarded funding
  • Completed postdoctoral employment or postdoctoral stay of at least 3 months at a higher education institution other than the one where you received your doctoral degree

Also meritorious are:

  • Experience of research and teaching in pharmacology and clinical pharmacy
  • Experience of research and teaching in physical and galenic pharmacy
  • Experience of research and teaching in organic and/or analytical chemistry with a bearing on pharmaceutical applications
  • Experience of practical extemporaneous manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and associated routines and regulations
  • Experience of collaboration with national and international research organisations
  • Experience of research collaboration with industry and the public sector, with a good understanding of their needs
  • Experience in project management
  • Good understanding of the Swedish pharmacy system

Assessment criteria
All applicants are judged on merit and skill. Meeting the time frame if the doctoral degree no more than five years before the application deadline is considered a merit when evaluating the total expertise

    • Quality and focus of the doctoral thesis
    • Documented good ability to independently conduct high-quality research
    • Reflective account of one's own pedagogical outlook and practice
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with actors in other parts of society related to education and research
    Faculty, Department and Research environment
    The Department of Biomedical Science at the Faculty of Health and Society (www.mau.se/bmv) offers education leading to a professional qualification as a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Biomedical Analyst (both at first-cycle level, 180 credits), and a Master's programme, Biomedical Surface Science (second-cycle level, 120 credits), as well as freestanding courses at first-cycle and second-cycle level. The department operates in the multifaceted meeting between biology, chemistry, pharmacy, medicine, physics and technology, and the interdisciplinary approach to research and education aims to further develop the theoretical and practical understanding of the complex subject. In this interaction between knowledge building and application, our students are out in pharmacies, clinics, hospital laboratories and at companies. Based on the balance between basic and applied research, the department has also been successful in attracting funding from regional, national and international research funders. Our researchers are constantly challenging the boundaries between scientific specialisations, between basic and applied research, and between academia and industry.

    The research at the department is also linked to the research center "Biofilms - Research Center for Biointerfaces" (www.mau.se/brcb), which combines pharmacy, biomedical science with clinical and translational research with pharmaceutical, medical, dental, food and environmental application areas in close collaboration with regional industry.

    Miscellaneous
    This full-time position as an associate senior lecturer is, with the support of the Higher Education Ordinance, limited in time for 4 years, with the possibility of being promoted to a permanent position as senior lecturer if the eligibility requirements are met. It is expected that the associate senior lecturer within the framework of the current employment also achieves the competence required for promotion to associate professor (i.e. Swedish Docent).

    For promotion to Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy
    An Associate Senior Lecturer may apply for promotion to a permanent position as a Senior Lecturer during the period of employment. The assessment is made against the requirements below. If these are met and the person is deemed suitable, promotion must take place.

    Qualification requirements

    • A doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence or other professional expertise that is of importance with regard to the subject content of the position and the duties that will be included in the employment
    • Teaching expertise
    • Training in teaching and learning in higher education comprising at least 15 credits or equivalent formalised training in teaching and learning in higher education.

    Assessment criteria
    The assessment criteria for employment as a senior lecturer shall be the degree of such expertise that is a requirement for eligibility for employment. The assessment of teaching expertise shall be given the same care as the assessment of other qualifying conditions in accordance with the first paragraph of the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, Section 4.

    A senior lecturer must be established in his/her field of study, taking into account the special character and tradition of the subject specialisation.

    A Senior Lecturer must demonstrate:

    • Documented competence in the subject
    • Documented ability to communicate and collaborate with actors in other parts of society with a clear connection to education and researc

    Teaching expertise relates to:

    • Documented ability to implement and lead education with different teaching methods in higher education with high quality
    • Documented experience of pedagogical development work and a reflective account of their own pedagogical outlook and practice
    • Documented ability to be research-related to education in terms of both content and pedagogy

    Research expertise means:

    • Documented ability to independently conduct high-quality research
    • Research in areas of relevance to current employment
    • Active participation in the scientific community

    Associate senior lecturers have 50 percent time for their own research and 50 percent time for teaching within the employment. The content of the duties as well as the distribution between research, teaching and administration may change over time.
