Mechanical Design Engineer

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy

It takes the brightest minds to be a technology leader. It takes imagination to create green energy for the generations to come. At Siemens Gamesa we make real what matters, join our global team.

Siemens Gamesa is part of Siemens Energy, a global leader in energy technology with a rich legacy of innovation spanning over 150 years. Together, we are committed to making sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy a reality by pushing the boundaries of what is possible. As a leading player in the wind industry and manufacturer of wind turbines, we are passionate about driving the energy transition and providing innovative solutions that meet the growing energy demand of the global community. At Siemens Gamesa, we are constantly seeking talented individuals to join our team and support our focus on energy transformation.

Find out how you can make a difference at Siemens Gamesa: Working with us.

For our Hub Department within the Technology organization, we are looking for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer.

The Hub is one of the main, large modules of a wind turbine; its function is to be the interface part between the blades and the mechanical drivetrain. The Hub assembly contains a varied group of components, ranging from large bearings and casted components to various turbine critical safety systems and small, hydraulic components.

So, if you have a desire to sharpen your skills within component development, using cutting edge analysis and development tools – or if you come with excellent analysis and component development knowledge from previous jobs – then here is your chance to join a dynamic and multicultural R&D environment.

How to contribute to our vision:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer in Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, you will be responsible for driving component development through the complete engineering value chain in a project team operated under the agile mindset.

Your typical workstream in a turbine development project could be:

Concept development of subsystems and components in various materials like steel, aluminum, cast iron, composites and plastics -> verifying your ideas by simple structural calculations and design reviews with main stakeholders -> spar with Supply Chain during supplier discussions, manufacturing, and assembly -> ensure an efficient installation when prototype is erected -> enable and contribute to Turbine test and verification -> and finally, ensuring the product is ready for handover to serial production.

Our design tool is NX Siemens PLM, and Teamcenter handles our PDM.

You will mainly be using GPS-, D-FMEA-, EHS Design Risk Assessment, and Tolerance Stack Analysis tools during your design work - plus off course your creativity, good ideas, and knowledge.

What you need to make a difference:
Besides a passion for renewable energy and a sense for the importance to lead the change, we are also looking for:

A future colleague having a bachelor or master´s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, with a minimum of 5 years of experience within product development and mechanical design engineering, preferably within the metal processing industry.

Besides being an experienced user in 3D/2D (preferably NX Siemens PLM), you should have good knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, casting/forging, and welding). If you have a craftsman education as e.g. blacksmith, industrial technician, toolmaker/machinist, or auto-mechanic this is also considered an advantage.

As a person you are a self-starter, structured, and a proactive problem solver that thrives with teamwork but also has the self-discipline to work and perform at an individual level. Generally, you have a strong desire and ability to drive improvements and change, at times working under time pressure and pushing technical boundaries.

Lastly, we assume you have strong communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.

In return of your commitment, we offer you:
Become a part of our mission for sustainability: Clean energy for generations to come. We are a global team of diverse colleagues who share a passion for renewable energy and have a culture of trust and empowerment to make our own ideas a reality. We focus on personal and professional development to grow internally within our organization. Siemens Gamesa offers a wide variety of benefits such as flexible working hours as well as home-office possibility for many colleagues, employer-funded pension, attractive remuneration package (fixed/variable) and local benefits such as subsided lunch, employee discounts and much more.
