The University seeks to appoint two associate professors to the Department of Neuroscience to commence on 01-01-2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description
The department offers a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative environment, with a commitment to research excellence and a thriving teaching program in neuroscience and pharmacology. The Department houses >25 groups working in different areas of neuroscience. Information about current staff can be found at https://in.ku.dk/.

The successful candidate will develop and lead an internationally recognized and primarily external-funded research program, contribute to our mission of education and service, and play an active role in the Department’s development.

Applicants should have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree with relevant postdoctoral training and a demonstrated track record of outstanding accomplishments. The primary selection criterion for the appointment is excellence. The associate professor is expected to be an expert within neuroscience and to have already obtained experience as a research leader. Applicants from any subfield in neuroscience are welcome to apply.

The associate professors’ responsibilities in the Department will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination.
  • Teaching:
    • Position 1 (neuroscience): Teaching and examination of medical students and neuroscience master students in the general neuroscience curriculum
    • Position 2 (pharmacology): Teaching and examination of primarily medical students in neuropharmacology and general pharmacology

  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of students at all levels.

  • Academic assessments and similar.
  • Actively contribute to the development of the department.

Required qualifications
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates.

We expect that each applicant can document the following requirements for the position:

  • Experience as an independent research leader.
  • International recognition in the field.
  • Prior success with obtaining research funding as a research leader.
  • Research publications based on work led by the applicant and with the applicant as lead author.
  • Teaching qualifications, experience and pedagogical competencies at the university level. The candidate is expected to be able to communicate in Danish within 3-6 years after the appointment.

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
The position is a permanent position. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

Application procedure
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
