Senior Transactional Advisor

Vestas

Specialist | Full-Time | Legal

Are you motivated by having a role that: seeks to enable a business to deliver on its strategic direction, requires that you are both a specialist in your core areas of knowledge but also capable of getting up to speed fast on anything commercial, technical, financial, or contractual – all within the empowerment landscape of a global project team interfacing to Vestas’ executive management? Then, read below and let’s talk if it sparks some curiosity.

The Contract Risk team forms part of the Global Risk team which consists of other global expertise functions such as Enterprise Risk Management, Security & Crisis Management, and Insurance.
We own Vestas' governance and decision model which works cross-functionally and globally to secure an early understanding of risks to enable balanced choices on our sales project transactions. In Contract Risk our working pattern is operating with Vestas's five continental Regional business units on a daily basis to enable the closing of projects and transactions with a balanced and proportionate risk profile that fulfils Vestas' strategic needs.

Finance > Vestas Legal, Risk & Compliance > Contract Risk

This vacancy has come about due to the team's roles and responsibilities expanding to fulfil Vestas' global strategy. We pride ourselves in retaining talent as our industry continues to evolve and set itself up for growth in the coming years. We do this by seeking to mobilize a globally innovative workforce and spread talent between Group and Regional roles.

Responsibilities

  • Review complex wind projects and transactions including evaluation of commercial, legal, financial, and technological risks in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams
  • Assess and influence the contracting risk profile of those projects and transactions. Identify the risks, evaluate them, and assess the available mitigations to ensure probability of risk occurrence and business impact are understood before Vestas proceeds with it
  • Operate daily within Vestas' governance model collaborating closely with regional offices and internal stakeholders, facilitating escalations potentially up to Vestas' executive management, where your role will require that you become an objective advisor enabling execution decisions
  • Identify and support to develop global policy and process updates to ensure our learnings from Vestas' global activities are harnessed and ultimately bring future value to the business
  • You will be expected to become familiar with all the different markets and different transacting structures that Vestas operates within when committing to projects or transactions globally
  • Your work is global, and you will regularly interface with people who are physically dispersed around the world. Communication, time management and managing expectations are critical skills when working with many different locations and cultures across the world

Qualifications

  • Educational background within a relevant business/commercial, legal or engineering degree
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience from a global organization. Energy industry experience is not a pre-requisite but represents a positive factor to your successful induction and growth in the role
  • Familiarity with construction and engineering contractual principles is a strength, but not a prerequisite. You may have some experience in navigating contractual drafting and mechanisms, possibly in a FIDIC-style contractual regime
  • Vestas' corporate language globally is English. Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement
  • You are comfortable and curious when navigating challenging issues on which you are not necessarily the expert, but you enjoy facilitating and formulating a balanced decision being taken with input from independent experts

Competencies

  • You already have a natural interest in either commercial, legal, financial or technical disciplines and are comfortable in navigating the interface of such issues in complex high capital cost transactions
  • Maintaining clarity of thought and thoroughness is a key skill set required for the role even though you will be working on issues in a fluid environment on deals that can move and have time management pressures
  • You aspire to get more professional experience in exploring and identifying the right solution to negotiation challenges that stand in the way of Vestas securing the business versus our competition. Over time you will gather a clear understanding of what you see as the market risk profile globally on many different commercial, contractual, technical, and financial issues

What we offer
You will be operating daily in a progressive and culturally diverse team interacting at the highest levels. You will be part of a team who are based in Copenhagen, Denmark, which is prepared to lean-in, learn and move forwards collaboratively in a fast-evolving energy sector. The behaviors we aspire to evidence as a Contract Risk team are to listen, then test, to ensure opportunities and risks are balanced and proportionate. Cope with speed and ambiguity to maintain business rhythm and limit the situations where unknown risks arise later that compromise a project's growth. It's important to us that we get the people-mix right - that's why our recruitment process will enable those shortlisted candidates to meet with and hear from existing Contract Risk team members.

Who are you, as of today?
A legal counsel, aspiring to increase your commercial awareness at the sharp-end of a global business’s decision making
A contract or bid manager, aspiring to evolve your contractual skill set to more front-end/pre-signature work
A risk analyst, aspiring to grow your experience into the contractual landscape
Maybe you just aspire to get into renewables?
