Would you like to be part of our specialist services group, who have been providing engineering support to space agencies and prime contractors for more than 40 years?
For our customer, the European Space Agency (ESA), we are seeking a senior space Product Assurance Engineer with experience of the space segments to work at ESA’s ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

Job description
You will be deployed to ESA/ESTEC’s Product Assurance Management Section within the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management (D/TEC) and provide integrated support to the Galileo project.

Responsibilities
As Product Assurance & Safety Engineer your role will be to provide PA support to assigned ESA projects in conducting, monitoring & assessing the implementation of the project’s established PA & Safety Programme.

The initial assignment will be to support the Space Segment of the EU/ESA Galileo project as ‘Galileo Space Segment PA & Safety Engineer’ with the following main tasks:

  • Guiding and monitoring the implementation of PA&S requirements by contractors in order to assess performance/effectiveness, participating in design reviews and directing the necessary preventive or corrective actions.
  • Ensuring the implementation of the Space Segment PA&S Requirements baseline across the applicable Galileo Satellite Project.
  • Supporting the process for evaluation and approval of contractors’ waivers and deviations.
  • Participating in the Boards established within the project for the disposition of Non-conformances / Failure Reviews, Test Reviews, etc.
  • Monitoring the integration and test activities with test witnessing, mandatory and key inspection points, configuration inspections and quality assurance audits.
  • Supporting the definition of the formal acceptance requirements and conduction of acceptance reviews of all assigned contractual deliverable items.
  • Ensuring the preparation of design trade-offs, analyses and reports using RAMS data to support project decisions.
  • Supporting the approval process and monitoring the procurement of EEE parts, materials and processes and controlling the implementation of applicable requirements.
  • Supporting launch campaigns as required.
  • Supporting Security activities for space segment as appropriate.
  • Supporting the maintenance of the Navigation Directorate Quality Management System as required.

This is a full-time position located at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

The requested start of work is July/August 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Significant business travel can be expected.

How to succeed in this position?
The successful candidate shall have:

  • A Masters’ level degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the space sector including 5 years in Product and Quality Assurance.
  • Experience with space hardware and test campaigns at spacecraft level.

Desirable:

  • Good knowledge of the applicable space standards (ECSS series) highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Configuration Management or the implementation of Product Assurance within a quality system certified to ISO 9001 would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with the European space sector and industrial landscape.

Soft skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are needed, together with a high degree of organizational and communication abilities, and comfortable with working in a diverse and multinational team environment.
  • Problem solving mind set and high capacity to deliver are highly considered.
  • Proficiency in the English language (spoken and written). Knowledge of other Member States’ languages is an asset.

NOTE: Candidates must be eligible for a Personal Security Clearances (PSC) from a country within the EU, issued by their national security administration(s).
