Legal Counsel

Milestone is looking for a new Legal Counsel to support our exciting corporate strategic initiative related to data insights.

You will join a leading, global provider of video management software and will support our innovative and entrepreneurial development team full time. The teams’ mission is to harness the power of machine learning and democratize it within the realm of video data – and by doing so contribute to the future of Milestone. If you join Milestone’s Legal, Compliance & Risk Management (LCRM) team
During the past few years, we have been expanding our LCRM team, which now consists of 14 legal, compliance and risk professionals globally. We are now looking for a Legal Counsel to join the team.

While you will formally become a member of the LCRM team, your day-to-day work will relate to closely supporting a development team of approximately 10 great colleagues in a fast-growing and very international environment. The team counts profiles across business development, engineering, data, community, design and more. All team members share an entrepreneurial mindset and a firm belief that we can break new ground to the benefit of the world. We work on a foundation of trust, collaboration, and flexibility. Ideally, your base will be within regular travelling distance of our HQ in Copenhagen but if you are the right profile, other options are possible.

You must be comfortable working with:

• ambiguity, where we don't have all the answers yet – we find ways to work where we can progress our ability to get the answers we need, as well as business through pragmatic approaches. It will be a balancing act until we find product market fit, where we can create a scalable legal solution
• taking legal agreements on a journey from bespoke to templatized and online
• all facets of product development – research, business development, bootstrapping projects, OEM agreements, partnerships with revenue share, software licensing, data, and more.
  

Your background includes experience with most of the following:

• platform business models and cloud services
• data as an asset
• exploratory product development methodologies
• backlogs (task lists) and kanban boards (visual task tracking)
• a keen interest in the AI Act
• a general understanding of IP rights
• a strong knowledge of GDPR and privacy in general
• making analyses within GDPR
• drafting and advising on data processing agreements
• advising on transfer of data in and out of the EU, including TIAs
• a strong experience with reviewing and drafting contracts
  

To succeed in the role, you must have:

• An academic legal background (Cand.Jur or Cand.merc Jur)
• Strong English language skills
• 2-3 years’ experience working with GDPR and contracts
• An agile mindset where we start small (boil a tea kettle) and build to scale over time (boil the ocean)
• The competency to work both with individual deliverables and as a part of a team/project
• An eagerness to work in an international setting

You possess a “can do” approach and you can prioritize a varied workload and demonstrate good time management to comply with deadlines.
