System Specialist – Operational Techonology

European Energy A/S

Seize this exciting opportunity to become a key player in the “engine room” of the green transition – apply now to become an OT System Specialist at European Energy.

As part of the OT Team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the optimal and secure operation of OT systems on utility-scale renewable energy plants. The reliable operation of wind, solar, energy storage, and Power-to-X plants is crucial for securing an energy system entirely powered by renewable energy, and the OT infrastructure forms a foundation for this.

With European Energy, you will be part of a rapidly expanding company that plays a major role in the global expansion of wind, solar, and Power-to-X plants. We develop, build, and operate plants globally, and since 2004 we have installed renewable energy plants worth more than 18 billion DKK, reaching 750 employees in the beginning of 2024.

The Role:
Working within OT, you will tie together the IT, automation, and process subject competencies. The common mission on construction projects and operating assets is the integrity, security, and compliance of the infrastructure.

Reporting to the Head of OT, you will collaborate closely with external and internal technicians and specialists within the various subsystems in PtX and solar plants for design, implementation, and operation of control systems, protection devices, and primary systems such as PLCs, inverters, or sensors. Additionally, you will play a key part in analyzing unexpected plant behavior or incidents concerning process control and signaling in the early operational phase and determining root causes.

Typical tasks will include:

  • Configuration and maintenance of OT devices and control systems, as well as network devices in collaboration with our network infrastructure department.
  • Coordinating signal exchange with relevant stakeholders.
  • Performing operational tests and verifying functionality and security during commissioning.
  • Updating functional requirements for hardware and control systems with lessons learned in dialogue with suppliers.
  • Following up on incidents and issues with potential changes to the systems for improved resilience.
  • Contributing technical perspectives in risk assessments and data acquisition strategy, including logging and redundancy.
  • Providing technical support during audits and acting as a TA (Technical Authority) on certain systems.

About You
We imagine that you have a background in engineering, IT, or automation combined with an interest in energy systems. You have 2-4 years of experience in OT or similar fields such as building automation or SCADA engineering, with hands-on work with PLCs, RTUs, SCADA software, or similar systems. We expect that you have basic proficiency within the OSI model and experience in troubleshooting relevant industrial protocols. Furthermore, you possess:

  • Basic data processing skills in Python or similar.
  • Knowledge of frameworks such as IEC 62443.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • A driver’s license for a passenger car.
  • Full professional proficiency in English; proficiency in Danish or German is a plus.

As a person, you have a holistic and curious approach to daily tasks and challenges. You are skilled at communicating the importance of OT and security to colleagues, and you are patient if the path to the goal is not straightforward. You can quickly acquire a basic understanding of new systems or functions, thanks to your ability to learn rapidly.
