Assistant Professor in Educational Organization and Management, based either in Copenhagen or Aarhus

The Danish School of Education (DPU) at the Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University, invites applications for one or more assistant professorships in educational organisation and management. The assistant professorship is a full-time, fixed-term three-year position starting on 1 November 2024, or as soon as possible hereafter subject to mutual agreement. The position will be based at the Department of Education Studies.
The Position
As an assistant professor in educational organisation and management, you will contribute to the building of a strong national and international profile of the Danish School of Education in the field of organisation and management. You will conduct independent and collaborative empirical research on organisation, management, leadership and change in educational institutions, such as daycare institutions, schools, high schools and higher education institutions.

Research
In continuity of your research, you will communicate research-based knowledge to practice fields, media and policymakers. Finally, you are expected to engage in research grant applications and international network consolidation during your position as an assistant professor.

Your tasks will mainly include:

  • Research of excellent and international quality, published in highprofile international and (if relevant) national journals
  • Development of national and international research collaborations
  • Researchbased communication to practice fields, media and policymakers at a national level
  • Development of grant applications independently or in collaboration with national and international partners
  • Researchbased teaching and development of teaching on the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in education science as well as the professional Master’s degree programme in educational leadership
  • Supervision of Bachelor’s, Master’s and professional Master’s students
  • Active involvement in the academic and collegial environment at the Department of Education Studies.

Teaching
The selected applicant will be expected to play an important role in the development and coordination of the students at Bachelor’s, Master’s and professional Master’s level, including coordinating course modules.
Talent development
The selected applicant will be expected to develop their supervision capabilities at MA level.
Knowledge exchange
The selected applicant is expected to engage in knowledge exchange as mentioned in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts, for instance in research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society actors or public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.
Qualifications
Appointment as an assistant professor/researcher requires academic qualifications at PhD level. At the Department of Education Studies, we welcome a broad range of academic backgrounds, including education, sociology, anthropology, psychology, social psychology, history, the history of ideas, political science, public administration, and organisation and management studies. Besides outlining how your academic background is relevant for the position, your application should demonstrate a relevant research profile within one or more of the following areas:

  • educational leadership
  • management in educational institutions
  • organisation of education
  • the relationship between management, organisation and education
  • organisational change
  • human learning and development processes in an organisational perspective.

Your application should furthermore outline your research plans and plans for the development of your academic profile in relation to these areas, as well as your empirical, methodological, conceptual and theoretical research contributions and interests. We prefer applicants working with educational institutions or other relevant organisations within the public sector.
About the Danish School of Education
The Danish School of Education at Aarhus University is Denmark’s largest centre for research and teaching in the fields of education, didactics and learning, with approximately 240 full-time researchers, including 80 PhD students, and 4,500 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students. The school’s activities are characterised by a high degree of interdisciplinarity and close interaction with society, including businesses, organisations, government agencies and institutions, both in Denmark and abroad.

An appointee who does not speak Danish will be required to acquire proficiency in Danish equivalent to level B2 (CEFR) in order to handle tasks, including administrative and managerial responsibilities, and to participate fully in the activities of the Danish School of Education within approximately three years of commencing the appointment. These include, but are not limited to, teaching and examining students, reading work-related texts and participating in meetings and collegial gatherings in Danish.

  • Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
