DTU Tenure Track Researcher in Continuous-Variable Quantum Communication – DTU Physics

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

A researcher position in continuous variable quantum communication is open in the Quantum Physics and Information Technology section at the physics department. It focuses on developing novel continuous variable quantum communication protocols.
A researcher position in continuous variable (CV) quantum communication is open in the Section for Quantum Physics and Information Technology at the Department of Physics. The position is associated with a project funded by the Innovation Foundation Denmark and focuses on developing novel CV quantum communication protocols.

The position will be hosted by the Section of Quantum Physics and Information Technology (QPIT) at the Department of Physics of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). We are a dynamic, innovative and diverse research team focused on quantum communication, computation, sensing and fundamental quantum physics. Our team is passionate about advancing quantum technology to, for instance, offer secure communication to the people. We have a wide range of academic and industry collaborations, e.g. as part of the EU Flagship on quantum technology and the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competences within experimental continuous-variable quantum communication. You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Conduct experimental research on continuous-variable quantum communication systems using coherent and squeezed states of light using device-dependent, measurement-device-independent and device-independent solutions.
  • Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects and be co-supervisor for PhD students.

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

Qualifications
Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing protocols, constructing, and operating continuous variable quantum communication systems.
  • Proven expertise in the implementation and demonstration of cutting-edge continuous variable quantum key distribution systems.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

Starting date is 1 December 2024 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.

The position is part of DTU’s Tenure Track program. Read more about the program and the recruitment process here.

Application procedure
Your complete online application must be submitted no later than 30 June 2024 (23:59 Danish time). Applications must be submitted as one PDF file containing all materials to be given consideration. To apply, please open the link "Apply now", fill out the online application form, and attach all your materials in English in one PDF file. The file must include:

  • Application (cover letter)
  • Vision for teaching and research for the tenure track period
  • CV including employment history, list of publications, H-index and ORCID (see http://orcid.org/)
  • Teaching portfolio including documentation of teaching experience
  • Academic Diplomas (MSc/PhD)

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.

DTU Physics is a modern department with an emphasis on strong professionalism. We want to be elitist in physics and we demand a lot of our employees and students. We focus on research, teaching, and innovation in areas with fundamental challenges and application potentials. We cover areas such as surface physics, materials science, computer-based material calculations, fluid dynamics, biophysics, plasma physics, and quantum physics, and we encourage collaboration between the areas. Applications range from sustainable energy and the materials of the future to quantum technology.

Technology for people
DTU develops technology for people. With our international elite research and study programmes, we are helping to create a better world and to solve the global challenges formulated in the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Hans Christian Ørsted founded DTU in 1829 with a clear mission to develop and create value using science and engineering to benefit society. That mission lives on today. DTU has 13,500 students and 6,000 employees. We work in an international atmosphere and have an inclusive, evolving, and informal working environment. DTU has campuses in all parts of Denmark and in Greenland, and we collaborate with the best universities around the world.
