The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, Faculty of Engineering and Science, Aalborg University invites applications for a professor position within the field of Biorefinery. The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience provides cutting-edge research and teaching in biotechnology, biology, environmental science, chemistry, and chemical engineering. Our research solves important challenges for the benefit of society, and through research-based teaching, we educate independent, collaborative, and solution-oriented bachelors, graduates, and PhDs.

The department consists of around 230 employees and enrolled PhD Students, including 55 assistant, associate, and full professors. The researchers at the department conduct internationally competitive research within a range of topics and are involves in the publication of around 250 peer reviewed publications annually. At the department, we have 8 high-profile research sections and individual researchers who deliver world-class applied and basic research with a mission-driven approach, and who contribute to the development of new technologies, methods, and new basic insights within natural science and engineering. The department is divided into two sections: the Section for Bioscience and Engineering– where this position is placed– and the Section for Chemical Science and Engineering. Both sections have activities on both Aalborg and Esbjerg campuses. The department’s day-to-day management is handled by the head of department, the vice heads of research and education, and the head of the secretariat in collaboration with section leaders. The specific activities under this position must encompass biotechnology research in biorefineries with a focus on how all parts of plant biomasses can be utilized in a sustainable climate-protective way. An important emphasis is on the challenges of global population growth, which is driving a growing demand on the food supply and production– and where engineering and biotechnology can make a difference. This includes research within sustainable bioresource technologies in feed and food production using biorefining concepts, such as the production of alternative proteins from new sources. The vision for the research could be development of methods to produce feed and food ingredients in a sustainable way, reuse, reduction or elimination of waste, reduction of energy, and water consumption, and reduced pressure on agricultural land.

The candidate must document a high degree of original scientific production at an international level within relevant research areas such as agriculture, biorefining, biotechnology, food and feed, metabolic engineering, and/or scaling of processes. Furthermore, the candidate must have a proven track record of attracting external research funding to realize own research plans.

A Professor position at Aalborg University encompasses both research and research-based teaching. Documentation of comprehensive teaching experience and curriculum development in relevant topics at university level is a prerequisite. Experience with the Problem Based Learning, that is integral to the teaching approach at Aalborg University, is considered favourably.

Qualification requirements:
The suitable applicant can demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions will also be taken into account. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.

Løn og ansættelsesvilkår
Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations(AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
