Research Assistant in management of waste - DTU Sustain

DTU Sustain has a one-year project connected to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency where we look for a research assistant to help on a number of projects. The projects all focus on circularity of materials and cleaner production processes.

We are looking for the materials sorting, and LCA/MFA expert that can complement our group and be involved in waste characterization and modelling in the project.

The tasks related to the project will involve applied modelling, deepening our current knowledge on prospective modelling of emerging technologies and innovation solutions to lower environmental From an LCA point of view. This will involve both process- and system-specific technology modelling as well as gaining an understanding of the wider context where this technology will operate (for example market mechanisms, interaction with the waste management system). Furthermore, the candidate should have an interest in waste sampling and characterization which is key for understanding the materials to be modelled.

The position will be placed within the larger group focusing on waste management and resource circularity.The direct contact will be with Associate Professor Anders Damgaard and you will work with the DTU-developed LCA model EASETECH, and other relevant tools

Responsibilities and qualifications
You have the following skills:

  • A master’s degree in environmental engineering or similar field
  • Expertise in LCA modelling across various software. Experience with EASETECH; OpenLCA, and SimaPro preferred
  • Experience in material flow analysis (MFA) modelling. Knowledge of STAN software is preferred
  • Understanding of waste characterization methods and waste management system, on a broad level and preferably also more specifically with application to the textile sector
  • Responsible, organized, and structured, with an attention to detail and willingness to continuously acquire new skills
  • Previous experience in report writing and ability to present the results of complex data analyses to stakeholders from various backgrounds
  • Team worker and an independent learner
  • Experience and interest in teaching assistant roles
  • Having worked with the Danish EPA before can be a benefit in knowing their dissemination requirements

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Be the daily person to move the research projects and communicate with the Danish EPA together with the project Lead.
  • Establish inventory models for technologies, and background system exchanges
  • Participate in project meetings
  • Method development for modelling emerging technologies and systems, in line with the work at the research group
  • Sort and characterize materials.
  • Analysis of results, dissemination of results through communication for stakeholders and academic publications
  • Involvement in teaching activities for MSc students: teaching activities in the course on waste management technologies and systems,

As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 1 year. Starting date is as soon as possible.
