About the job
Do you want to use your scientific passion to develop products that change people's lives? Do you want to rethink your impact, and are you passionate about product development for enzymes and other proteins? Then you might be our new Postdoc for Enzyme Immobilization – Formulation Development.

Join us as our new Postdoc for Enzyme Immobilization – Formulation Development
Novonesis works closely with customers, partners and the global community to create a better and more sustainable world through science and research. As part of Research & Development (R&D), and herein Formulation Development (FD), you will help to find biological solutions and build new business areas that can pave the way for a brighter future.

In the department of Solid Products Development & Innovation, we are looking for a skilled scientist with a deep passion for innovating and working with enzyme immobilization and new formulations. The postdoc position is part of a new international project where you will be working closely together with internal and external collaborators developing new methods of immobilization, new formats of immobilized products and characterizing properties of immobilized enzymes for applications related to the green transition of production systems.

Welcome to Solid Products Development & Innovation (SPDI)
We are part of Formulation Development that consists of around 22 scientists and 26 laboratory and pilot technicians, located at Novonesis' site in Bagsværd. We are responsible for development of enzyme products and production processes, upscaling of new products and technologies, as well as supporting and improving our existing product range. In SPDI, we are a team of 14 highly engaged, multicultural scientists, with a passion for enzyme formulation, solids processing, and product innovation. We cooperate with many of Novonesis’ functions locally and internationally. The department provides a nice balance of Danish and international employees, and we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team, so you can expect to work with colleagues with different backgrounds and expertise. We have a high focus on supporting our employees' work-life balance and we offer flexible work arrangements.

In our department, our primary focus is to create new products that excite our customers, by developing solid enzyme formulations and designing new product formats, using existing or new technologies. To succeed we combine insights from chemical engineering, chemistry, enzymes/proteins, powder processes (e.g. granulation, spray drying, fluid bed processing), digitalization and then select the optimal solutions both for customer value and product quality. We are in direct contact with our colleagues in marketing, production, pilot plants, application, and other R&D departments in Novonesis as well as external customers. We work with a wide range of applications including household care, animal feed, human health, food & beverage, oils & fats, carbon capture, bioenergy and more.

In this role you'll make an impact by:
Developing new immobilization concepts for an emerging green industry application with potentially high impact on environment. You will be working with scientists and technicians across departments and countries, and it is therefore expected that you find it easy to collaborate and thrive in the context of multidisciplinary project groups. Your collaborative mindset, drive, curiosity and learning capability will be crucial to succeed in the role.

The successful candidate is a strong team player who naturally engages proactively with the broader organization and external collaborators, takes ownership, independently plans, and executes experiments and has the ability to put results in a broader context.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A PhD in chemical/biochemical engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Physical Chemistry or equivalent experience
  • A strong scientific background with critical thinking skills, creative entrepreneurial mindset, and ability to formulate ideas for experiments and prototype designs and make things happen.
  • Experience from working with enzyme immobilization and biocatalysis is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Experience from working with designing and making new product formats is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge about enzyme/protein and formulation in solid form is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Independence with strong personal drive, while enjoying collaboration and communication with different stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to conclude and share own results in oral as well as in written form.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with a positive attitude and a desire to achieve results together with others with a holistic mindset.
  • A fundamental passion for science and technology involving enzymes with a strong desire to make a difference in the world.
  • Fluency in English as you will work closely with colleagues of different nationalities.

This is a temporary 1,5-year position with starting date October 1, 2024.

You will collaborate with another post doc hired simultaneously for Protein Chemistry & Assays (JR101985).
