Postdoc – Analytical Chemistry and Human Biomonitoring of minerals - DTU Food

Exciting opportunity for a Postdoc! Contribute to cutting-edge research on micronutrient malnutrition in the EU. Strong analytical skills and GDPR knowledge needed.
The ZeroHiddenHungerEU is an ambitious European project aimed at addressing micronutrient malnutrition and hidden hunger within the EU (www.zerohiddenhunger.eu). As part of this initiative, we are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct iodine and creatinine analysis in human urine samples. You will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of nutritional deficiencies and contributing to the improvement of public health within the EU.

You will be a member of the Research Group for Analytical Food Chemistry. We have an extensive analytical platform based on mass spectrometry and aim at providing comprehensive chemical insight in understanding the formation and occurrence of unwanted chemical components in the food chain. Our work includes the study of novel and renewable food resources, food contact materials, and food models for processing. You will work in an international and interdisciplinary team of researchers.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your primary focus will be conducting analytical analysis of iodine and creatinine levels in human urine samples, contributing with generation of important data to the understanding of micronutrient malnutrition. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with GDPR and other relevant regulations in handling and processing of human samples.

Your main tasks will be:

  • Perform iodine and creatinine analysis on human urine samples.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including GDPR, in handling and processing human samples.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and project partners to integrate findings into broader nutritional research efforts.
  • Analyze and interpret data, prepare scientific reports, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Present research findings at conferences, workshops, and other scientific forums.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot technical issues.

You are also expected to contribute to:

  • Development of the research area of the group.
  • Attraction of research funds.
  • Teaching activities, supervision as well as lecturing.
  • Other research activities within the research group.
  • Collaboration with industry partners.
  • Provision of scientific advice of public authorities.

It would be great if you have documented experience in and/or knowledge of one or more of the following areas:

  • Background in Analytical Chemistry, Food technology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analytical techniques, particularly ICP-MS, with experience in iodine and creatinine analysis preferred.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality control measures and data analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of regulations and ethical considerations regarding the handling of human samples, including GDPR compliance.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prior experience in nutritional research or public health is desirable but not essential.
  • Proven track record of scientific productivity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2 years. Starting date is 1st September 2024 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is full time and working place is the National Food Institute at the Lyngby campus area of DTU.
