The Proteomics Research Infrastructure, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen is looking for a Senior Consultant to lead its service pipeline.

About us
The Proteomics Research Infrastructure (PRI) is a state-of-the-art mass spectrometry (MS) based proteomics research facility located at the faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen.

PRI offers easy and timely access to the newest proteomics technologies, providing support at all levels from consultancy, over sample preparation, to MS measurements and data analysis. PRI is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) and linked to the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) a top-notch research institute for fundamental protein research and a world leader in its proteomics technologies. The research environment at PRI and CPR is vibrant, ambitious, and international, with many different nationalities represented. The working language is English.

Your tasks
The successful candidate is expected to oversee the service pipeline at PRI and ensure that proteomics services are conducted in a timely manner at the highest international level. PRI receives more than 350 service requests a year, and for more than 75% of those, PRI offers sample preparation. The successful candidate will manage two technical staff members and coordinate sample preparation, applying the latest proteomics methods. The candidate will refer directly to the PRI Director Michael Wierer, who can prioritize the listed tasks below when necessary.

Your tasks will also include:

  • Advising and supporting UCPH and non-UCPH scientists in different sample preparation strategies.
  • Supporting PRI users in filling in sample request forms and selecting the most suitable options.
  • Being the first-level contact point for PRI users for questions related to their request status.
  • Developing and implementing streamlined protocols for the analysis of standard proteomic service requests.
  • Designing protocols for user-specific proteomic projects.
  • Developing and adjusting protocols for various automated sample handling systems (Hamilton STAR, Thermo Kingfisher, Tecan A200, Agilent BRAVO).
  • Performing sample preparation, when required by workload.
  • Attending proteomic conferences to keep up to date with latest developments in the field.
  • Co-authoring publications, when relevant.

Your profile
The selected candidate should be reliable and well-organized, as the work requires independence and demands flexibility and accuracy. Furthermore, the candidate should have good interpersonal skills and be interested in working within an international team.

The ideal candidate should fulfil the following qualifications:

  • A PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related fields is a benefit.
  • Proven work experience in processing biological and clinical samples for measurement on LC-MS instrumentation.
  • Prior work experience in proteomic core facilities is not required but will be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience with the proteomics workflow, from sample prep to data analysis will be a distinct advantage.
  • Detailed knowledge and knowhow with operating, maintaining, and programming sample automation instrumentation such as Hamilton STAR, Thermo Kingfisher, Tecan A200 and Agilent BRAVO will be regarded as an advantage.
  • Experience in coordinating technical staff members will be regarded as an advantage.
  • Experience and training in advanced mass spectrometry-based proteomics.
  • Willingness to support multiple projects and interact with scientists as part of PRI’s user base.
  • Service-minded and a team player.
  • Communication skills & fluency in English.

Employment conditions
Your employment will be at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR), University of Copenhagen. The position is full-time (37 hours per week), and it is open for appointment on September 1st, 2023 or as soon as possible.

The employment conditions and salary are made in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Employment would be as a senior consultant with personnel management, with the possibility to negotiate salary supplements according to qualifications and competences.
