We are looking for a VP Medical & Science to join an ambitious and creative team of medical doctors and clinical pharmacology specialists to set the direction and drive the development of the Diabetes area.

The diabetes market is changing rapidly with significant implications on what future treatments need to offer. As a leader of the Medical & Science department, you will have an exciting opportunity to work with an innovative product pipeline and drive impact at scale in both clinical drug and device development to secure the future success of Novo Nordisk.

The position is placed in the Greater Copenhagen area, Denmark. We welcome applications from candidates based in Denmark and those that are willing to relocate.

The position
The VP of Medical & Science is a highly visible position in the organization. Reporting to the Corporate Project Vice President, Diabetes, the VP works with a diverse landscape of global stakeholders and the Global Medical & Science Leadership Council and is a member of the Diabetes Leadership team. In addition, the VP builds and maintains partnerships with investigators, key opinion leaders, and health authorities.

You will be responsible for short-, mid-, and long-term planning and will help run and further develop Diabetes Medical & Science area in alignment with the wider business strategies.

Together with the team, you will be responsible for medical and scientific matters related to diabetes product development. This includes product development strategies, medical and scientific input and interpretation across the value chain and interactions with health authorities.

People leadership is an important part of the role. You will lead a fast-growing team of 40+ people and will play an active role in coaching and developing their direct reports and setting the direction for the whole area. Supporting and enabling knowledge sharing across the team and the wider organization and promoting collaboration will be vital for the team success.

You will play a key role in driving innovation through leading and participating in important global projects across the value chain and ensuring strategic partnership with research, development and commercial teams as well as external business development stakeholders. In addition, you will ensure that the knowledge of the therapeutic areas and competitive environment is kept up to date.

Qualifications
You are an experienced leader with a strong clinical and/or research background, holding an MD and preferably a PhD Degree, and have solid experience from the pharmaceutical industry within diabetes or cardiovascular therapy area.

You will bring a successful track record of strategic planning within clinical drug development and/or regulatory submission.

To be successful in the role, you will demonstrate strong people leadership skills and a proven track record of leading through others and developing and coaching high performing teams of talented and creative individuals.

You are a team player that will foster and encourage collaboration across the team, within the organization and externally. You can navigate a complex senior stakeholder landscape, operate in a multi-national matrix environment and build strong partnerships.

This is an ideal position for a driven and ambitious leader who is passionate about our purpose and diabetes therapy areas and will be able to convey this passion to the team and stakeholders.

The Diabetes area
The Diabetes project area is anchored in Clinical Drug Development under our Development organisation. We are responsible for an exciting pipeline of clinical development programmes targeting people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Our trial activities range from phase 1 to phase 4 and includes Real-World Evidence activities, virtual and decentralised trials, and non-interventional studies. We collaborate closely across many skill areas and together we all contribute with our high level of expertise. We strive to remain a best-in-class development organisation.
