We are looking for
Teaching assistants in Media technology at the Faculty of Technology and Society.

Work duties
We are looking for teaching assistants for working for the master program Media Technology: Strategic Media Development. We need teacher assistants for two courses: ME659E Data Visualization and Analysis and ME652E Prototyping Media Technology.

  • ME659E Data Visualization and Analysis
    • Course Description: The Data Visualization and Analysis course aims to equip students with essential skills in data-driven design, data analysis, and effective communication through visualizations. Students will explore various methodologies and tools to transform data into insightful visual narratives, enabling them to effectively communicate complex information.
    • Responsibilities of Teaching Assistant Students:
      • Workshops and Tutorials: TAs will assist the instructor in conducting workshops, tutorials, and practical sessions, guiding students through the process of data visualization and analysis using relevant tools and techniques.
      • Technical Support: TAs will offer guidance and technical assistance to students during lab sessions, helping them understand and utilize tools for data visualization such as R, Python, and software like Tableau.
      • Office Hours: TAs will hold regular office hours to address individual student inquiries, provide additional guidance, and foster a collaborative learning environment.
  • ME652E Prototyping Media Technology
    • Course Description: The media prototyping course aims to equip students with essential skills in creating interactive media experiences using Arduino prototyping boards and coding. Students will explore the fusion of media, technology, and creativity, enabling them to develop innovative and interactive projects that bridge the digital and physical worlds.
    • Responsibilities of Teaching Assistant Students:
      • TAs will assist the instructor in conducting workshops, tutorials, and practical sessions, guiding students through the process of media prototyping, Arduino programming, and troubleshooting techniques.
      • Providing Technical Support: TAs will offer guidance and technical assistance to students during lab sessions, helping them understand the intricacies of Arduino boards, sensors, actuators, and various media integration possibilities.
      • Office Hours: TAs will hold regular office hours to address individual student inquiries, provide additional guidance, and foster a collaborative learning environment.

Qualifications
Only those admitted to first or second-cycle courses and study programmes may be employed as teaching assistants (Chapter 5, Section 10 of the Higher Education Ordinance).

In addition to formal competence, University employees must possess the personal capacities necessary to perform the duties of the position well and to represent the University in the best possible way.

Specific requirements for this position:
Qualifications for ME659E Data Visualization and Analysis

  • Data Visualization Expertise: Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques. Key tools include one of these: Google Data Studio, R (ggplot2), Python (Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly). Important techniques encompass histograms, scatter plots, heatmaps, box plots, bubble charts, and infographics.
  • Coding and Analytical Skills: experience in programming languages such as R, Python or Matlab, and experience in data analysis.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Aptitude for troubleshooting data-related projects, along with the ability to guide students in finding solutions to challenges they may encounter.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.

Qualifications for ME652E Prototyping Media Technology

  • Experience in Arduino Programming and its integration with media components, such as sensors, LEDs, displays, and actuators.
  • Coding Expertise: Familiarity with programming languages such as Arduino IDE C/C++ and experience in developing interactive media projects using Arduino.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Aptitude for troubleshooting and debugging Arduino-based projects, along with the ability to guide students in finding solutions to challenges they may encounter.

The following would be of benefit for the position:
Prior Teaching or Mentoring Experience: Previous experience as a teaching assistant, tutor, or mentor.

Faculty
The Faculty of Technology and Society conducts education and research with a focus on technology and natural sciences at its two departments: the Department of Computer Science and Media Technology, and the Department of Materials Science and Applied Mathematics. The faculty collaborates with companies and other organizations with the aim of enhancing skill levels, creating new products, developing operations, and providing students with early connections to their future careers. The Department of Computer Science and Media Technology offers research-linked education at both undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as doctoral studies. Research at the department is conducted in computer science, information systems, software engineering, and media technology. Some of the areas we are interested in within research and education include artificial intelligence, digital media, e-health, the Internet of Things, and game development. The department has over 80 teachers and doctoral students, and the operations are divided into three units, each with its own unit manager. More information about the department can be found here.
