The position
As our new Global Patent Attorney, you will be responsible for obtaining patent protection for research and development projects as well as launched Novo Nordisk products. R&D is either internal at one of our global research sites, or in collaboration with external companies and academic institutions.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Applying in-depth business understanding to craft strategies for filing, prosecution, maintenance and defence of patents and ensure worldwide patent exclusivity for Novo Nordisk products and development projects, as well as safeguarding Novo Nordisk know-how and securing Novo Nordisk’s freedom-to-operate for research, development, production, and commercialization

• Managing patent portfolios effectively, including drafting and prosecuting high quality patent applications, and defending Novo Nordisk patent rights, including opposition and appeal proceedings

• Identifying and managing IP risks through efficient communication, advising the research organisation and handling patent invalidation matters

• Support enforcement and defence of our IP in litigation and pre-litigation matters

You are likely to be involved in business development deals, such as in-licensing and acquisition opportunities, as Novo Nordisk is investing heavily in external innovation.

We offer a flexible work setup where you can work from home several days per week if you want to.

The position is based at our headquarters in Bagsværd, Denmark, and can expect approximately 1-2 weeks of travel per year.

Qualifications
The preferred candidate has the following qualifications:

• M.Sc. or higher in Biology, Biochemistry, Medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical science or any other relevant field

• Passed at least 2 out of 4 exam papers as part of the European Qualifying Examination (or having proven corresponding experience)

• At least 2-4 years of relevant patent experience

As a person, you should enjoy working in interdisciplinary/cross-functional teams, but also demonstrate an independent work ethic to be able to balance multiple tasks and projects with constantly evolving priorities.

About the department
Corporate Patents is located in Bagsværd, as part of Novo Nordisk’s Global Legal & Patents organisation. The Danish patent part of the organisation comprises more than 30 dedicated patent attorneys and administrators, and is globally responsible for the largest part of the Novo Nordisk patent portfolio. The position is located in Patents II, a pharma sub-department responsible mainly for patent matters within diabetes, obesity and rare endocrine and blood disorders.
