Your role and responsibilities
As Digital Lead Counsel you act as the subject matter expert on Digital, Software, AI, Cyber security and Contract Lifecycle Management (“Digital”) legal matters and provide legal support to the ABB Motion Business Area across all Divisions/Markets, focusing on the Digital legal needs of the business. As a strategic business partner and enabler, you strongly collaborate with our Division Lead Counsel and Regional General Counsels. This role reports to the Global General Counsel Motion. Candidates in one of the following location will be preferred: Finland, Sweden, Italy, Spain or India. Key Responsibilities: • Help develop and support the strategy of Motion Business Area and Divisions on Digital initiatives and programs. • Provide day-to-day legal advice, guidance and support to the BA, the divisions and countries on worldwide digital activities & projects in areas of emerging technologies, data management, cyber security, and software. • Provide legal advice on strategic alliances, commercial and marketing initiatives and programs, product development and certification and all commercialization opportunities. • In collaboration with the Corporate Center of Expertise for Digital and with other BA legal teams, lead the development of contract standards, templates and guidelines and ensures their deployment, implementation, and operationalization within Motion. • Acting as the legal point of contact (SPOC) for implementation projects on the Motion Business Area level in relation to new legislation. • Develop training curriculum and provide training and guidance to the Motion business within the area of expertise. • Drive improvement and development of contractual model clauses on Digital Risks and obligations. • Review, draft and assist in negotiations of customer contracts and deals in the focus areas. (Common and BA & division distinct). • Keep abreast of legal developments, in particular commercial, regulatory and integrity risks that arise in respect of Digital laws and regulations, with responsibility to ensure legal team and business stakeholders are informed and updated on legal developments. • Focal point of contact for legal and integrity support for all Motion Cyber Security and Data breach incidences. • Providing legal support for Business Area and division specific cyber security matters and incident response (in accordance with corporate policies and procedures). • Providing legal expertise for technology M&A transactions within the Business Area and divisions. • Sets, develops, & leads strategy, objectives, and targets in alignment with Motion strategy. Influences & consults with senior management in the Divisions/BA to innovatively ensure effectiveness of own functional area. • Proactively collaborates with the division teams. Maintains an external awareness and perspective and acts as the acknowledged expert, with consulting responsibility on functional area knowledge and trends. Facilitates the sharing of best practices and ensures harmonized and standardized processes throughout the Business Area to deliver consistent support. • Fully understands the ABB Way of operating and operates IS in close alignments with the divisions across the Motion Business Area. • Ensures that the area of responsibility is organized, staffed, skilled and directed. Guides, motivates, and develops direct/indirect subordinates within HR policies, for the benefit of both ABB and the employee. Effects people decisions in the function’s scope of activities in cooperation with the Business Area function. • Ensures all employees in the function understand corporate governance, safety and integrity standards and act accordingly. Acts as a personal role model for the organization in this regard. Contributes to effective risk management by providing advice to Executive Committee and senior management on key ABB Group policy decisions.

Qualifications for the role

• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in the legal field, being a qualified attorney will be a plus
• 10+ years of professional experience, ideally gained in a global, cross-cultural and cross-functional environment as in-house lawyer or in a reputable law firm with a focus on software, digital legal tools, legal technology process development.
• Outstanding negotiation and stakeholder management skills driven by collaboration, transparency and technical knowhow and ability to work in complex international environment, substantial experience.
• Demonstrable leadership experience, leading and motivating (face to face and remotely) functional, business and cross-functional and cross-country teams.
• Superior advocacy and communication skills, including the ability to communicate in writing effectively and efficiently and orally, an aptitude for practical negotiation, the capability to think clearly and quickly under pressure, the composure to satisfy multiple and often competing interests and ability to share lessons learned with teammates.
• Strong drafting and negotiation skills on a global level and ability to work in a complex international environment.
• Interest and curiosity in technical topics, including the rapid development of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, CLM and software contracts, and in acquiring a deep understanding in Digital Business Models.
• Fluency in English with strong communication, presentation, and networking skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and independently.
