Do you seek to use your competences to identify new therapeutic targets to treat non-communicable diseases and improve population health? Is advanced data analysis, systems biological approaches and experimental data generation all part of your repertoire?
Then you might be the candidate we are looking for.
The Disease Systems Immunology group in Section for Medical Biotechnology at DTU Bioengineering invites applications for a position as Tenure Track Scientist in Integrative immunology and metagenomics.

We are looking for a scientist with deep knowledge within the fields of experimental immunology, metagenomics, data science and bioinformatics with specific focus on immune regulation, host-microbiome interplays, and their involvement in inflammatory barrier responses.

You will contribute to improve our understanding of the role of microbiome-immune interactions in health and disease. You will develop and strengthen the department’s position in state-of-the-art data science and bioinformatics within the area of microbiota-driven immune (dys)regulation, and assist[JM1] [JM2] in bridging the gap between wet lab and data driven bioengineering.

Responsibilities and qualifications
This position gives you the opportunity to get the responsibility to function as the senior data scientist in the Disease Systems Immunology group lead by Prof. Susanne Brix Pedersen.

It is desirable that you have experience in identifying biotherapeutic targets using advanced bioinformatics and data science, as well as in wet lab-based single cell techniques to study the microbiota in a framework of immune regulation and host responses.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Take active part as well as supervising research within the fields of immunology and microbiome research.
  • Deliver scientific excellence, including publication and societal outreach.
  • Implement and continuously improve bioinformatics pipelines and wet lab protocols.

  • Experience with analysis of cohort data and integration of heterogeneous datatypes using programming languages like R.
  • Experience with implementation of statistical methods and computational pipelines in a UNIX-based supercomputing environment under GDPR jurisdiction.
  • Experience in implementation and execution of wet lab experiments for investigations into immune-microbiota interactions, using e.g. flow cytometry, cell sorting, different sequencing techniques.
  • A track record of excellent research output in integrative immunology and metagenomics.
  • Track record of teaching at university level including lecturing and project supervision.
  • That you communicate well in a research group as well as with partners, stakeholders, students and in international settings.
